While it can be reasonably argued that Honda overtly nudged Michael/Team
AGR over to the IRL, KOOL left after last season. This year's green is
7-Eleven green.
Jim Hall's back-door Chevy ties were presuambly long gone before the
Yellow Submarine came to be. After all, the 2K (and earlier Lola) had a
Cossie DFX dropped in the back, as opposed to a small block like Gurney
et. al. used, or the Ryan Falconer-developed (with factory blessing)
turbo V6 that Lindsey Hopkins (and later A.J.) used. Also, Big Al was
sick of Hall's arrogance in taking credit from John Barnard for the 2K,
and lack of subsequent development on it. Thus, he left for Bobby
Hillin, Sr's Longhorn effort, which I believe built a car off Williams
FW-08 plans.
He was also arguably on payroll as pace car driver/rookie coach. Not
wise to badmouth "Him Who Signs the Checks." ;)
Much as Big Al later served as a coach, and Mears does now.
Regardless of politics, Lone Star JR was always a great guy to talk to
the times I snagged his autograph. His bio from a couple years ago is a
great read too. Class act.
I'd argue the opposite will be true, given A.J.'s recent Mansell-esque
whining about the NASCAR environment.
Differences of opinion are cool by me, just stay reasonably close to the
facts. I'll give you credit for well-developed *** theories,
though. :-)
