NASCAR 2002 & INTEL 3.06 Processor! Is anyone using this combination.....

Friend of mine with over 7 years of Nascar Sim Experience said that when he
got his new 3.06 Intel the best he could run at Taladega was 179MPH.  Said the
single processor comes up as a multi processor because of the parallel operations
inherit in the 3.06 Architecture.  What experience has anyone else had with
this combination..

I responded to this same scenario elsewhere here.  But the problem is
XP uses a whole bunch of EXTRA files that are loaded at startup to access
the split processor.  Even if he turns off hyperthreading in the bios, XP
still loads the extra files(consuming resources)
So...first thing...turn off hyperthreading in the bios.
next  erase xp and re-install WITHOUT the hyperthreading files.

Now...next thing...THere is no reason that I can think of why he is
limited to 179mph.  A slow cpu would lower the framerate, but the upper
limit of ontrack speed shouldn't be limited.  I would suspect his
controller may not be calibrating properly.
If he has controller software, turn down the range the pedals can move,
then calibrate in the demo..then exit and expand the range back to full
travel.  (do NOT recalibrate in the demo)  try that.

I agree.  I never heard of a processor limiting how fast you can go on a
track.  It's more likely a controller problem than it would be a processor
one.

Or else the guy wants eveyone to know that he has a powerful processor.  :)

The speed issue can't be processor related (Its not an issue for me anyway.....),
however.........................
I've got a P4 3.06 HT w/ 1024 DDR RAM & ATI 9700PRO and
w/ NR2003Demo my frames rates aren't great.  They are basically
the same whether I run 1024 X 768 X 16 or 1600 X 1200 X 32.
They ARE consistent though.  At the back of the back at the start
of a race I get 47 fps, never gets lower and will get as high as 60 fps.
Very wierd.  I'm hoping that w/ a full field it will stay high........

"Hank Pauli"
 run 1024 X 768 X 16 or 1600 X 1200 X 32.
   Do you have vsync enabled?

Why would you want to do that?  N4, 2002, and 2003 are multithreaded apps
and show a marked improvement running on an HT processor or a true dual
processor system.

No, vsync is off & running the latest 3.0 Catalyst Drivers..........
I don't get it.........
I won't start crying till I find out if I can run a full field or not.

Can you define "marked" a little better? I'm looking at building a new
system and a dual CPU might be an option for me.

Because Dave is afraid of all this new technology, that's why he's still
racing using W95 and a keyboard.....

Dang right I'm afraid of new tech stuff.  Why I heard they are planning
on making records with tiny little discs, smaller than a 45.  Whew!
progress!
btw..
Thanks for the info Eric.  I was wondering if the SMP coding in the Papy
sims would be compatible with this newfangled HyperThreading.
Ok...  I guess I'll have to modify my posisiton...uhmmm  ya see there was
this rabbit..........................................

Well as someone who's getting a similar system this week....it's called
Employee Purchase Plan or "no interest we'll take it off your paycheque". If
it wasn't for those I'd still be running a P200.
