N4 essential add ons?

by Kevin Clar » Sat, 21 Apr 2001 20:17:05

I've just bought N4 (UK).

Are there any essential addons that I should install straight away?
Updated graphics or sounds or anything?

thanks

Wow, you guys are real helpful.

For starters, try the 2001 Winston Cup carsets from either The Pit Wagon
http://thepitwagon.hypermart.net/index.html
or High Compression http://www.high-compression.com/

You could also try the AI fix posted April 7 by (Mike Pounders) to Black
Hole Motorsports http://www.bhmotorsports.com/
It is a work in progress and your results may vary, but it is a definite
improvement for me at some tracks.

The BH-motorsports' ini files adjust player grip too, thus making it
impossible for the player to join online games on those tracks.

Sure about that? I installed the BH Ai fix, and afterwards when I joined an
online race a dialog appeared saying something like: "The race director is
sending you information. You cannot enter the track before download has
finished". After that, everything worked fine. Now, I'm not sure the dialog
box was related to the modified ini files, but it would make sense for the
server to upload valid ini files to a client, wouldn't it?

I stand corrected. When connection online, the game informs that it has
altered your track grip to server settings. This will, however, make your
own setups unuseful, because the grips are different.

I have encounterd the race director sending info twice and have NEVER installed
an AI fix.  I am not sure but I think I had just joined a race which was using
multiple computer opponents....I assumed that it was updating information on
which cars were included, practice times etc.

Yeah, I was wrong too. It's actually a different dialog that comes up when
the server has to modify client's ini settings. Something like "Tech
Inspection" :)
