Split Axis on TM Sprint Wheel

Split Axis on TM Sprint Wheel

by Ian Rich » Fri, 19 Oct 2001 17:15:51

I'm using a TM Sprint wheel, with the hand paddles rather than the
foot pedals.  This allows me split axis control in GPL - albeit only
when using the Papy driver, the DirectX driver gives combined axis.

How do I get the wheel to be in split axis mode for all DirectX games?
The catalyst for this is the superb Ralll Trophy demo, which I am
finding impossible to get running in split-axis mode.

If I try and add the wheel as a "custom" 3-axis device, the game
controllers panel just says "not connected".

The OS is Win98SE, with DirectX8.0a.

Any ideas anyone?

Split Axis on TM Sprint Wheel

It's been a long time since I used a TM Sprint so bear with me...:-)

I seem to recall I had to download a driver update from the old
Thrustmaster website.  Then, I had to select "Nascar Pro" from the
Windows calibration menu to get the Sprint to work via DirectX in GPL.

Don't know about other games.

You're not alone...

I have the same problem with my TSW & Rally Trophy.  Others with
different wheels are reporting problems as well.

Hopefully, the full release of Rally Trophy will get the controller
issues resolved.

FWIW, I still have the old driver update I used with the Sprint.  I
don't know if it will work with DirectX8, but I'll send it to you if
you want.  Also, the current Thrustmaster site has updated drivers for
a variety of wheels including something called "Nascar Sprint"

http://us.thrustmaster.com/support/driver_view.php3?id=107

or

http://europe.thrustmaster.com/support/find_drv.php

To add to the confusion, the old driver update I used is 120K.  The
new set of drivers is 4.3MB & might fill your system with a bunch of
stuff you don't need & might not fix your problem.

<problems with split axis pedals on TM Sprint wheel snipped>

I'll try the "Nascar Pro" setting then - if I can find it!

<more snipped>

I've downloaded the 4.3MB driver file, which has the same file name
and approximate size as the driver I used when installing the
wheel....

If you could send me the 120Kb update that would be great.  The e-mail
address used in this posting is largely ignored due to spam.  I would
appreciate it if you could send it to "iriches at strategyanalytics
dot com"

Thanks for your help.

I found it and it worked.  I now have split axis in all DX games
(well, all I tested: GP3, NFS PU, Rally Trophy Demo, Nascar Heat,
TOCA2).

Thanks for the help.
