GPLRANK and F2/F3/FD/FG

by Chris Cavi » Thu, 25 Jan 2001 02:51:18

What is all this crap?  I abandoned REC.AUTOS.SPORT.INDY because it
descended into uncontrolled name calling and petty bickering.  I'd hate
to think REC.AUTOS.SIMUALTORS would fall into the same degenerative
cycle just because the game was *ENHANCED* by the engine swapper.

I only participate in GPLRank as an F1 driver, but I find the FD, and
to a lesser extent the FG cars, entertaining as hell to race.  And I
certainly wouldn't consider the F2 and F3 cars to be any cakewalk to
drive, either.  The reduced grip makes them damned difficult to control
on the limit.  Maybe even harder to balance mid-corner than an F1 car.

GPLRANK and F2/F3/FD/FG

Well this heated thread has got me curious--what do the "D" and "G" in FD/FG
stand for?

Thanx,

Yep.

GPLRANK and F2/F3/FD/FG

They are initials for some new gpl classes that are now available via
the engine swapper utility.   At first the fear was putting odd
engine/chassis
combos in F1.  But some online racers found putting the F2 engine in a F1
chassis makes for a very racey and stable car.  Perhaps these guys had
already
had some inferiority complex about running F2 classes anyway, but they
decided to 'create' some odd names for the new hybrids.  Instead of F1-2
(f1 chassis, F2 engine) or F1-3(F1 chassis, F3 engine) they came up with
FD and FG.  I know if I spent 5 minutes, I could figure out which is which,
but I haven't so I don't know which stands for each new class.
These guys are happy with the names, fine.  But they seemed insulted when
the whole GPL family didn't immeadiately accept their naming conventions.
hence the threads like this one.

And the problem re-occurs whenever someone hears about it for the first time...

Absolutely nothing, they were just picked out of the alphabet at random.

Get you facts right before you comment...
I am not getting back into this argument, and i won't be replying to
this thread again, but before you sprout dribble, check where the names
"FG" & "FD" came from and why they were called that...

Cheers,
Ron
