F1RS is a Nightmare !!!!

Hi!

I have a 3dfx card and the 1st corner is unplayable.
So what's the point of having 2nd to 21nd place.

Come on!! This is the first game that fails in crucial part of F1
racing.

*GP2 was also slow at the same point but not that bad.
*TOCA is a bit slow but no lags at the start.

IMHO it's just very bad coding from the ubi-boys :-((

Have you updated F1RS with all the available patches?  They're available
on the Ubi Soft site <www.ubisoft.com>, or from The Unofficial F1RS page
<www.f1racingsim.com>

Cheers!

Marc

Something is wrong with your system then.  F1rs is about 2000% faster than
GP2 when racing with the AI.

I am also wondering what CPU he has. On my P5-200MMX it
is very playable into the first corner. I do notice some performance
loss during the first lap though. Even when I qualify on the pole,
I seem to start very poorly and am lucky to hold 3rd or 4th position
into the first turn. Then I notice that the game performance improves
allot during the first lap. So I make a very deliberate effort to drive
very cautiously for the first lap while things get sorted out. I'll
bet that is fairly realistic, and many real drivers do the same :-)

It is slow for me as well into the first corner...but I know why and
plan on having a fix as soon as Abit gets off their ass and releases
the IT5-ae Motherboard....then it will be fixed.

Bart....
I also have a 3DFX card (P166, 50Mb RAM) and the first corner is fine.
Not perfect, by any means, but most assuredly playable.
However, I have made the adjustments to the sound settings that reduce
the "First Corner Effect".
Depth of view in Graphics is at its second-highest setting.  Sky is "on"
and all other Grapical details are enabled.  Messages are "on". Replays
are "off".

If you have not carried out the tweaks to the games' default sound setup
files then I suggest that you try them just to see how you go.

I think the sound is your problem here. I read somewhere (I think it was
on the http://www.f1racingsim.com/ site) that the mixing of all the car
sounds make the game overly slow in the first corner. There are two
lines in one of the config files that regulate how far away the sound
source should be before hearing it...

You dont say what CPU you use though. I'm running a 200MMX with a
Voodoo RUSH card (which is a tad slower than Voodoo Graphics, but dont
get me started on that), and the first corner was always fine.
Turning the replay function of helps, as does modifying the sound
variables. I believe that a number of the F1 RS sites have
instructions for this
As far as I can see, the game is very well coded, just slightly badly
implemented (menus etc)
I love it so much I'm buying a steering wheel next....

Also, I believe that cold tires are modeled in the game, so your first lap
in a race will be a lot more slippery.  I have a P-200 MMX with 3DFX and get
perfect framerate with max everything, including a full field.

I had the same problem with my 166 with 3dfx. None of the various fixes
talked about helped much. I solved the problem by buying a 333-P2 now it
runs fine.

F1RS is a Nightmare !!!!

by Bruc » Fri, 13 Feb 1998 04:00:00

AAP,  Thursday 12th. February.
F1RS *** Reported.
According to informed sources, whom we have dubbed 'Deep RAM', a cunning
international *** was hatched some months ago.

In an effort to have more people upgrade their systems sooner rather than
later, a plot was hatched whereby a French software company would produce a
pretty stunning simulation that would have one elemental flaw:  the player
would not be able to make it to/through the first corner of each race.
The frustration experienced by said player would cause him/her to
immediately rush out and buy the fastest CPUs known to mankind, such CPUs
being manufactured by an American conglomerate who don't use upper-case
letters in their name.

So far, from all reports, this *** appears to be operating quite
successfully.
