Colin McRae Rally 2 confirmed... My concerns

Hi,
for those of you that still dont know, CMR 2 is confirmed
(http://www.racesimcentral.net/) which is really great news but one thing
puzzles me, why are Codemasters developing the game for PC and
*Playstation*. Its expected to be released in 2000, PSX 2 will be out in
Japan at least (or am I confused with some other console (yuk))
The Playstation is so dated, the graphics are looking desperatly blocky,
frame rates are ***(ever tried Driver!) and I doubt the PSX could handle a
new CMR, boasting breat taking visuals and higher polygon cars.

Come on Codies, I know you and Playstations go a long way but concentrate on
PC's and the next gen consoles and leave the PSX to die on a relative high.

Please feel free to debate.

I'd hate to think what the PC/PSX slpit in sales for codies is.

Codies are 4th in the charts on the back of the PSX Plantinum release. 4th
overall.  Teh three PSX titles above are some of the most recently await
newreleases in *ages*.

TOCA Touring car was in the playstation charts for nearly a year (top 10).

Simply, i feel lucky we still get PC versions. I'd love to know there revenue
or more generously, their sales unit split.

I expect sales split, it's in the order of 70%/30%  PSX/PC (or more...) and
revenue wise, PSX retails 5-10 higher...

Erm, yes, but how much of that do they have to give to Sony?

The whole point of PSX games is that they have to be licensed by Sony,
which is where they make their profit (and also how they can subsidise
the cost of the consoles themselves).

I suspect that CodeMasters actually gets more of a cut from the PC
games.

Their margin may be higher for PC titles, but their revenue is probably
much lower since PSX is so popular.  I don't see any PC CD-ROM's for
rent yet at Blockbuster....

um,  i guess i'm not under NDA anymore, so here goes:

Sony charge you 6 to reproduce each game, with CD, Special Jewel Case, and a
deafult manual size, manual size going up and down, changes things.

On a PC, in a sierra box, you'd expect this to cost around ~.80p-1.00
depending on manual size/quanity.

Given that PSX stuff tends to be 5-10 more expensive...
