Darlington and Michigan were "resurfaced" in version 1.2, so, yes, you can
expect speeds to be much higher than the record.

Incidently, there is a new track record at Darlington, because it was
resurfaced for real this year.  The record is 170.833 mph, set by Jeff Gordon.

Interesting, I forgot which tracks they said they "resurfaced".  I thought it
wasn't Darlington, but some of the bigger tracks.  Although the speeds the
cars are running are near the new record, they still blow it away.  I'm getting
cars running 174+ mph.  I think thats a little unrealistic, but it could have
been a one time thing.  I've yet to try it since I posted

OK some one help me out here.  I'm running version 1.2 of NASCAR Racing.
Even though I just started I set the opponants at 100%.  I started at
Atlanta and seem to run in the middle of the pack, and at Taladaga I
seem to run near the front.  So I desided to try out Darlington.  I set
a qualifing setup in Preseason Practice.  I noticed that the track record
was at 166.XXX by Bodine, so I get my car running 168.XXX.  I think cool
assured top 5 start.  Wrong!  When I run a real race I qualify dead last?
Is this a bug or are the cars really supposed to be running 10+ mph faster
than the record.

Oh, I'm running the recent 95 car set for NASSCAR.

--- This above statement may be the reason.  I made my own carset using the
NASSCAR set as an example.... upped many of the settings and now the
cars all run very fast (faster than normal) and are a good challenge.
This whole thinsg is a complicated affair really and something I suggest
"you don't try at home" ;-)  I ended up creating an entirely new set of
track.txt files as well (then made a .bat program so I could copy the
set I desired at the time)... What I discovered is that the AI's were
running more competively at 100%, but Qualifying was next to impossible.
I just jinked with the Blap  a bit so as to stand a chance to hopefully
get a top 5 grid spot (I don't care about the pole ;-)).

--- Anyway, long story shortened.... try the default carset at Darlington
and see what happens with that.  Something also tells me they adjusted the
grip levels at some tracks (maybe Darl?)  This could increse the speeds
for everyone.....

see ya.
