Rally Games

A while back I read about the possibility of a new rallying game called,
I believe "Power Slide".  Did this ever materialize?

The only game I have come across for the PC is "RALLY" by Accolade.  This
is not the greatest simulation, but more of a novelty.

I have also seen "World Rally" by Atari in the arcade, which certainly is
no simulation but is not a bad game.

I have heard about another game by Sega where you get to choose between
two rally cars and it is supposed to be pretty good.  What is this game
called and what is it like?  Is it as good as Daytona USA?

I would also like to know about all rally games ever produced for any
platform.

Thanks,

Joel Robinson

There is another rally game called Power Drive by US Gold not bad but far
to easy, That Power Slide game is the one by Elite, as yet I have heard
of no news of a release as it is UK company they have said nothing so far
that I have read about in computer mags.

Seen and played it as well but not sure it is by Atari, unless Atari have
licensed it to produce.

The game is called Sega Rally (The cars you can pick are a Toyota Celica
94 Model, and 92 or 93 Lancia Delta Intergrale), It also uses an enhanced
board of the Daytona Arcade Machine, it is not a bad game, but the
Steering is to sensitive, steer very slowing and it plays okay. I think
it needs a handbrake to handbrake round some of the difficult hairpin
corners.

In the UK there is another Rally game called "RAC Rally" but that is
pretty crap.

I saw an article (nov 94) in an English mag which had a demo review on Power
Slide.  They said the graphics were using a new Vector system and real world
object modeling digitised sound effects etc. etc.

Anyhow, around Feb, my CD mail order place had it on sale so I ordered it.  Do
you think it has turned up yet?  Not likely.  The screen shots were real enough
so maybe the game has gone back to the drawing board.  I'd like to know which
company it was that created it as I never brought the magazine with the
article.

Any other info on rally games for the PC would be appreciated as well.

Cheers

That's Sega Rally. It's great. In my place we have two (yes, two) versions :

1 - single seater, with full hydraulics, etc. This has also the nicest seat, and
plays smooth and you sit very "relaxed";

2 - two next-to-eachother linked machines. This is even better. Both players get
to choose their car (a toyota and a peugeot i believe) and automatic/manual
shifting. The chair is somewhat small, and the whole layout sucks if you're
tall. Also, the steering wheel is very "strong", because next day I had some
muscle injuries because of all the pushing and pulling of the machine. Anyway,
crashing into your friend is great, you have a better look of what line is best
during the race.

I have two Rally simulations:

"Network Q RAC Rally" by Accolade, and "Lombard Rally" by Mandarin
Software.  The Lombard Rally game is several years old, and the software
isn't up to todays standards.

The Network Q program is much better.  It has the entire RAC rally course
programmed into it, and you can setup the weather (rain, snow, mud etc)
to your liking.  Yoiu have a choice of competing or practicing in a
number of interesting cars (Escort/Cosworth, Celica, Imprezza etc).  It's
an interesting game, but not quite as real as some of the flight
simulators I've flown on the PC.  (I'm a pilot as well as a Pro Rally
driver, so my point of reference is pretty good!)

I'd love to see the Power Slide program if it is a better simulation.  So
far I've been disapointed with driving simulators in general...
