hey, I just found your group... where have I been all these years??!! :)

well, let me share something with you to see if you can help.  I have NFS 1,
2 and 3, and would love to get versions 2 and 3 running in 3dfx mode.  I've
seen them in 3dfx mode in my brothers computer but I don't know how to do
it.  I have a Rendition v2200 8meg pci video card, and I was told it was
3dfx.  I have looked at 3dfx gamer sites and many of the games seem to
support rendition as a 3dfx card.   it seems to be only working as a plain
accelerator.  so how do i get NFS 2 and 3 to work in 3dfx mode on this
rendition v2200 card?

okay, next part.  when I get a new game I burn around all the tracks
enjoying the "speed, sound and scenery" (my 3 R's for racing sims and flight
sims).  so I love finding cool stuff to do in games apart from just racing.
for example in NFS 3 I love playing two players with a friend and doing
night driving, like ambushes and pushing cars off the cliff so they catch on
fire, and stunts and all sorts of awesome stuff.  So what are the best car
sims for that kind of thing?  Is there a sim where I can have unlimited free
in a city to drive around unique streets and crash parties and drive through
parks and swimming pools and stuff?

and what about track editors for the NFS series... what are they, where do I
get them?  are they easy to use?  can I make new graphics?  make new cars?
download new cars?  (the cheat codes are fun for a while but i'd like to be
creative and make my own cars)  ideas?

You mean you don't know?

Don't think it *is* a 3dfx card. Chuck out that old crock and get a new
graphics card!  Check if you have an AGP slot on your motherboard, if not,
get the Voodoo3 PCI card.

Midtown Madness will sort you out just fine. No parties, but look out for
the chance to catch some air in  the city bus :-)
Oh, And you really ought to get Sierra's "Grand Prix Legends" which is out
on budget now. Plenty of fun to be had there... (an invitation for *someone*
to get worked up again)

Can't help with that, I'm afraid :-(

I hope you're not playing with matches right now.

So, I get a change to mention Monster Truck Madness 2 twice in one day. You
can drive the entire virtual world, not just on the tracks. There are
hundreds of tracks (about 1000 last count) and as many vehicles, some with
deserts, cities, countryside, even underwater and the moon. Track editors
are available and you can build your own cars and trucks. You can also do
'king of the hill'  and cops & robbers scenarios. Very good multiplayer
interface (probably the best around), but alas, no burns when you crash.

I don't know...there's somewhere else than RAS?? :D

Fun games...NFS1 will always be a favorite, I still don't know how it looked
so good and ran so fast on a P90, 8MB of RAM, and a 2MB S3 864 video
card!!!!!!

However...you say '3dFx' mode....what you MEAN is 3d accelerated mode.  3dFx
mode is open ONLY to actual 3dFx cards (Voodoos, Rushes, Banshees) or other
cards using a 'Glide Wrapper' (which is worthless - ultra-slow and ugly).

No, TECHNICALLY, it's not a 3dFx card, but a Rendition card is a 3d
accelerator, albeit a very old and relatively (I say relatively because it's
not that bad, and can be very good if properly written for) slow one.

Well, I have NFS3 on a PC with an actual Voodoo2 and another with a 4MB
Renditon 2200.  NFS3, AFAIK, does not have any real Rendition support.  Your
best bet is to run it in 'Direct3d'.  If your driver doesn't support this
well (In N3/NL, my Diamond Stealth II wouldn't work in D3d - switching to
the Rendition 'Reference' drivers fixed it, tho it sucks compared to my
Voodoo2...NFS3 didn't look better graphically after the switch, but seems to
run a little smoother) you should upgrade to the Reference drivers.
However, if you really want to make them look and run AWESOME, fork over $50
for a Voodoo2 1000 and drop the sucker in next to your Rendition.  You'll
love it.

They can catch on fire??   Coooooooollllll......

Driver and Midtown Madness come to mind...I have the Driver demo, and after
a simple tweak (edit a text file for unlimited time, take off damage, up the
number of cops) it friggin ROCKS!!!!!!!  Really, you should definitely
upgrade to a 3dFX board if you want to play it tho.

You can download loads of cars for NFS3, and I remember you could do the
same for tracks in NFS1, but I don't think there are tracks for NFS3...

Well, I don't think it ran under Windows, so there ya go...  I
remember that in-between time period when games would ship with a
Windows version and a DOS version... The windows version would be
about half as fast, at least on my system I had at the time.

DOS Rules!  heh
