You do need to go up to 1.2.0.2 (which is indeed the cpu-fixed version I
believe) to install the 65 Mod.
That's because there were so many different versions (UK, German, US)
that it would've been too complicated and bug-prone to patch all these
exes. (Note that it patches 'in memory' and creates the patched version
as a separate copy called GPLc65.exe.)
So the easiest thing by far is to get the GPL all-in-one patch from
trackdb.d2g.com and do it all in one go. I did and it didn't give me any
problems on my older PII rig. Besides, you gain extra video drivers for
opengl and d3d in case you no longer have a Voodoo card. If you want to
be extra careful you can just copy your gpl folder and let it patch that.
It's worth it though - the 65 Mod is not only a bit more accurate, but
also big, fat, great fun. Fun to drive, to hotlap, and to race. And, as
a bonus, you get a fine looking and performing BRM you can even get to
like :)
