GPL 1.2.0.2

by Hoops7 » Thu, 13 May 2004 06:32:18

Hi people,

Can anyone point me to somewhere that I can get the patch to upgrade
GPL to version 1.2.0.2

I have just re-installed GPL but all the patches I can find only make
it up to 1.2.0.1.

Also, when I used the original CD I got with the very first boxed
version of the sim The installation aborts saying I have an invalid
CD. Anybody else come across this? Is it possible that the CD has gone
bad after just a few years. I had to resort to opening up the SOLD OUT
budget release version but it bugs me that the original doesn;t work.

Cheers

Peter

Try the all-in-one patch here: http://trackdb.d2g.com/

Try it in another CD (or DVD) drive. Sierra's copy protection can't be
read by some (IIRC Panasonic) drives. Mine does this too in my DVD but
it works fine in my CD-RW drive.

Thanks for the info,

I have already tried the all-in-one patch but my version of GPL still
says ver 1.2.0.1.

I'll give the CD a bash in another drive. Thanks.

Ah. Never tried it myself I'm afraid ;-)

I have the UK 1.2.0.2 CPU patch, I can mail it to you if it's of any
use, or have a search on RSC to see if anyone is hosting it somewhere.

What is the 1.2.0.2 version supposed to give you?  Is that the CPU patch?  Mine
only says 1.2.0.1 as well, but I don't need the CPU patch.

You do need to go up to 1.2.0.2 (which is indeed the cpu-fixed version I
believe) to install the 65 Mod.

That's because there were so many different versions (UK, German, US)
that it would've been too complicated and bug-prone to patch all these
exes. (Note that it patches 'in memory' and creates the patched version
as a separate copy called GPLc65.exe.)

So the easiest thing by far is to get the GPL all-in-one patch from
trackdb.d2g.com and do it all in one go. I did and it didn't give me any
problems on my older PII rig. Besides, you gain extra video drivers for
opengl and d3d in case you no longer have a Voodoo card. If you want to
be extra careful you can just copy your gpl folder and let it patch that.

It's worth it though - the 65 Mod is not only a bit more accurate, but
also big, fat, great fun. Fun to drive, to hotlap, and to race. And, as
a bonus, you get a fine looking and performing BRM you can even get to
like   :)

Yes, it's the CPU patch. I installed it the other day, even though it isn't
necessary on my system, and everything is still working fine. It was hard to
find, though, as apparently it vanished when www.papy.com was swicthed to
www.vugames.com ... Blackhole Motorsports seems to be the only site with online
copies of the patch, as most other sites just point to the original

I see in a post below that you have the problem fixed. But for anyone
else who might be interested in downloading each patch separately, you
can find them at the following site:

I'm a sucker for the underdog, I guess   ;)

It's also got the nicest looking***pit of the 65's, imho. Even the
little paint chippings on the edge of the metal dash rims are modeled..
  <thumbs up!>

If it's any consolation though, apart from the top dog cars like Lotus
and Ferrari yesterday I tried the other ones too. I can safely report
they're also huge fun to drive - even the Cooper, though slow, was a joy
to drive. Even the Honda and that's not something I could state about
its 67 counterpart...
