N2: Ned Jarret Comments COOL!

by Stinger Win » Mon, 17 Mar 1997 04:00:00

I got Nascar (original) about a year ago, and went through the pains of
frustration getting up to speed.  I spent many a night crashing just for
fun!  Then i got serious, bought a wheel, practiced, got reasonably good at
it.  In January, continuing the serious mode I bought N2, and have found I
have much more of a  challenge to win let alone passing.

Now my comment really is, I was frustrated the other night and went into
"crash mode" demo derby style when I hit the pace car.  I thought Ned
Jarret was going to come out of the spotter's section and slap my face!
Man I mean he was livid!  I LOVE this SIMULATION!

Note I didn't say GAME.

Anyone else miss out on this by not goofing around in N2?  I laughed so
hard. Is there some more things I have missed?  The comments Jarret should
be used more in other incidents like:  Driving in too low in a turn just
inside opponents rear quarter panel, which no matter how many times you try
it, will only cause a crash, or yourself to spin out and then crash.

Damn fine job there Papyrus...  get me a patch so I can save my race when I
get another 20 minutes to play...

I try to read this group, but the list only lasts about 3 days so I miss a
bunch.  I cannot see the binary version for this group either is there
really one?

OK, people, one more time...NED JARRETT IS NOT THE SPOTTER!!!  It
doesn't even SOUND like Ned...!
If you ACTUALLY had read the manual, it's a guy by the name of Ronald
Gaines.
Yeah, we noticed.  It is THE SIM in my opinion.  I have N1 and ICR2,
but neither compares to N2 (I thought N1 was THE SHIT, until N2 came
out).  I bought ICR2 to practice road course racing.  Got pretty good
too...

Yes, there is an alt.binaries.autos.simulations.  There are cars and
pictures posted over there.

  You're welcome....

The spotter's voice is actually that of Ron Gaines, who did some
spotting in a former life.  He does sort of sound like Ned though.

God Bless,
Steve

Watch an episode of "Inside NASCAR" (or even a REAL Winston Cup Race
on TNN) and then just TRY and tell us it doesn't sound EXACTLY like
Ned!

Definitely sounds most like Dale Jarrets's brother. Uhhh... what his name?
He usually does pit reporting.

OK, here's the deal.  I have been around racing since 1970  Believe
me, I KNOW what Ned sounds like; I've watched more than my fair share of
races.  We (my dad actually) owned a Late Model car for, like, 22
years.  I have watched Winston Cup(Grand Nationals before they were
Winston Cup), BGN, Modifieds, Late Model Sportsman (before they became
the Busch Grand Nationals), Trucks,  Hooter's Cup, All-Pro, Goody's
Dash, and countless other series on TV.  To me, this spotter on N2 does
NOT come close to sounding like Ned Jarrett.  Sure, ol' Ron's got a
Southern accent, but that's because that's where NASCAR comes from:  the
South.  So, I believe Papyrus felt that they had to get a guy with that
type of Southern drawl to be the spotter.  Ever listen to someone like
Ray Evernham on the radio?  He's from Jersey;  he's got a distinct
accent.  Or how 'bout Jeff Fuller..?  There's someone you ought to
listen to on the radio (from Massachussetts).

Glenn Jarrett, and I agree, they do sound very similar.

I totally agree with Chris. I could have swore it was Glen, but guess not.

Total so far:

5 Jarret's (Glenn & Ned)
1 Parsons
1 Ron Gaines.

Sheesh, I may be guilty of gettin' to wordy about how I got "Mr. Spotter"
to say some neat lines, besides "car high'" "car low" "looks like we lost
that motor" and the infamous "ARE YOU ALRIGHT?" >> heard often at Phoenix

As far as I'm concerned it sounds "close enough" to Ned or Glen.  If ya-all
don't think so, then FINE. Looks to me the polls are in my favor as to who
others think it sounds like.

copied from another post (sorry Randy)

I have the book, I don't like the fact someone implied I don't have one: IE
= Pirate Copy.
This may not have been Intentional, but I have had enough problems with 95
r2 and the T2 that finding the page about who is the spotter, Criminy sake,
give me a break.

The fact that it may sound like Ned or whoever, enhanced the sim to me.
Wether this was intentional or not?  I compared the voice to Nas1 (from
memory) since I gave the d*mn sim to my brother, tell me who was on that
Intro????  Didn't he even say "Im Ned Jarret, From Papryrus this is Nascar
racing"?     This allowed on to think that N2 just expanded his role in the
sim..

Still
