This is a very close and helpful group. In my opinion, it is due to the
"global" content of its subscribers and the racing community in general.
Just don't get them going on Mclaren vs. Ferrari.

Like, one time at band camp....

Man, that's friggin cool, a guy going out on his own accord and doing a
stranger on the net a favor like that...

Maybe Aussies are just inherently nice...I remember waay back when we first
actually got on the net (just after AOL...*shudder*) the wheel on the
outside of my mom's 'ye olde electrique viking sewing machine' broke...now
that thing is old...and guess where we found a replacement, not to mention
at a very low price?  Some guy in Australia!!  Gotta go down under some
day... :)

There are alot of helpful people out there.

About 8 years ago I started up a BBS and ran it for about 3 years.  There
were a few times that I would run into trouble (car died, etc) and if I
posted a message on my BBS, I was ALWAYS able to find someone to help me.
Always for free.  The part about the car, my cars engine had finally had
enough after 200,000+ miles and it went out.  A gentleman on my BBS read my
message and offered his full services.  I paid for a rebuilt engine (I think
it was $550) and he spent the whole weekend with me replacing it in my car.
He even had to go out and buy special tools to do so.  He would not let me
pay him back for the tools because as he said "I will use them again one
day".  Because of people like that and the help I have received in the past,
I always try to help others when I can. Usually this has to do with
computers, but at least it is a service that I can provide for free.

Help others freely because you just never know when you may need the favor
returned

It's called Karma.  I've sent many a free magazine back issue, video,
thingamabob in the post to someone in need.  It's also not worth the hassle
for a few bucks to try to request payment.

Y'know, I've REALLY been wanting a....well....uh....Jordan Pit Babe!
Anyone?  Just throw some stamps on her(self-sticking please! this is a
family show!) and send her to Dave at the USPS in Spokane, we'll do the
rest.

I'm an American and have had the pleasure of visiting both Australia and New
Zealand.  From my experiences, the people in both of these countries are the
nicest I have ever encountered.  You go into a gas station, and the attendant
treats you like a long lost relative.  One day, my wife and I were trying to
catch a bus from the boonies into Sydney.  A bus driver stopped and told us
that we would have to catch a different bus at a different station.  The other
station wasn't on his route, but he told us to hop in and took us to the
connection anyway.  By contrast, on our way home from Australia, we stopped in
Hawaii, and we were waiting for a bus to take us to the Norh Shore of Oahu.  A
bus came by and didn't open its doors at the stop.  When I knocked on the door
to ask the driver a question, he just glared at me and sped off.  Welcome back
to America!

Sure there are great people (and ***s) everywhere, but there sure seems to
be a very high percentage of the former down in that part of the world.
