after reading the comparison of F12002 and GP4 I thought I'd give F1
2002 another try. I suppose I was one of the people in this group that
liked GPX, (except GP4 in race mode where everything goes like glue...).

I use a gamepad and one thing I liked in GPX was that one button could
be assigned for the gear change (up or down) depending whether you are
accelerating or braking. Is this possible in F1 2002?

They seem to mutually exclusive, selecting one, deselects the first
choice. Perhaps it requires some internal changes.

Any advice welcome.

If you even attempt to use a game pad to play a racing sim., the crowd in
here (me included) won't have much sympathy for you.

I don't know about that.  Some of the fastest GPL racers use joysticks.
Or they did.  Don't know if they've upgraded.

What does a joystick (analogue like a wheel) have to do with a game pad
(digital)?

Well first it takes less space, second I can use it for other games,
thirdly it is cheaper and lastly it has (sort of) analog inputs, well
little 'mushrooms' you push around in analog fashion.

I have played with a wheel and the keyboard and find the gear changes
(particularly down) the quickest this way, perhaps it is not and if
you measure in real ms, but it seems that way.

Before the followup and 'yanks' (little joke there .ca) say it, no I
don't see F1 drivers with gamepads in their cars.

I haven't seen an all digital gamepad in years.

Drive it however you want Ian, whatever's fun for you.  It's not the end
of the world, and they're just GAMES(hehe, I always get a kick out of the
***retitive screaming, "no, it's a sim, not a game")

John

p.s.  You don't see F1 drivers sitting in an easy chair staring at a pc
monitor either, while driving <g.
