GPL: How well would it run?

by Toni Lassi » Sun, 03 Jan 1999 04:00:00

Having just bought a new computer and a wheel, I am finally tempted to
try out GPL. Here are the specs:

AMD K6-2-400 Mhz
64 Mb RAM
Matrox Mystique G200 8 Mb
Thrustmaster Sprint -wheel

I understand there is a patch for GPL that uses G200, is this correct?
I would like to try out the demo again, but I don't think it supports
G200. If anybody out there is running GPL with G200, please tell me
how it runs.

    I'm running a P2-450/ 128M SDRAM/ G200 8M AGP/ 2x Monster 2 12M/
AWE64/ TM Nascar Pro

I've tried both the G200 and the Monster 2's in SLI as primary video
cards and my suggestion would be to buy a 3D card. The G200 does produce
some nice graphics but the frame rate isn't what the Voodoo 2 cards crank
out; and frame rate is everything to GPL.

If you are interested in off-line racing, the G200 will do just fine.

I do have a Voodoo1 card stored in a box in case I need it, but was
thinking maybe I could save some money by investing into a new 3D-card
only when the G200 becomes too slow (Voodoo2 is still quite expensive
here in Finland).

Alright that's what I needed to know. Thanks.
