GP2-Wheel records....

Hi Gp2 lovers,

Can anyone show me were I can find good records and setups from people
who uses Wheel and pedals(T2 etc). I find it very hard to beat the times
that all the joystick and keyboard users do!!  Why is it so??? Is ther
any sim or driving game that we who use wheel will bennefit from it and
have better times than Joystick/keyboard?. I love my T2 and would never
go back to joy/keybord just to go fastest, but it would be nice to see
what times other with whells have.........Please dont tell me to
practice....I am doing it and I am using no help except autogear and
idealline.

Many thanks Patrick Klemetz

I also think that frame rate has something to do with getting good
times.  I can't stand VGA with my 17" monitor.  Plus I can't see my
turning points well enough in VGA.  However, if I max out the frame rate
to >25.6 I can easily do 1-2 seconds faster at Monza without even
trying.  Unfortunately I need my SVGA/no detail/and 15-18 fps.  Until I
can find the cash to upgrade I guess I'll just stick to amateur level
and practice practice practice.

BTW:  I find the idealline distracting.  I think you will get better
results eventually turning off autogear.  If you need the help, use the
suggested gearing option instead.  I use it to help me remember what
type of corner is coming up when I'm in a heated battle.  For me a
heated battle is knowing someone is closing on me even if they are 10
seconds away or I know I am closing on someone even though they are 10
seconds away.  I really have to learn how to "calm" down in "tight"
situations.  :-)

Excerpts from netnews.rec.autos.simulators: 1-Aug-96 GP2-Wheel

Autogear is what's probably hurting you. I took it off (it was a daring
move), and once I got used to it, my lap times in Hockenheim improved
drastically (on the order of a couple of seconds).

Having manual gears gives you more control over the curve/chicane/etc
entry and exit speeds and revs of your car, and allows you to find the
ideal acceleration through the exits of curves.

Try it.

Berend

P.S.: BTW, I am a joystick driver. ;)
