33.6 modem

I am thinking of buying the Micron Millenia.  I called them and they said
a 33.6 modem would be $139.  Is this a good price or should I buy a
seperate modem and put it in when the computer arrives?  Are there any
problems with buying a Micron?

                        Thanks

I have been very pleased with the Micron which I purchased over a year ago
and would recommend them highly.

$139 seems like a very fair price for a 33.6 modem since they run between
$150 and $200 at CompUSA.  I believe that Micron supplies the Supra modem
manufactured by Diamond Multimedia.  I have no experience with modems from
this manufacturer.  I have had disappointing results from US Robotics on
two occasions and am currently using a Motorola Lifestyle 28.8 modem.

Hope this helps,
Greg

That's a decent price on a 33.6. A friend of mine has a Micron and said he
has had no problems with it. I have a 33.6 Boca and it's been great,
However, I have found finding a server with a good 33.6 connection is about
impossible (If anyone knows of one please let me know) I have had many
companies tell me that a 33.6 connection loses too many packets. So until
the tech catches up to the modem you might have to settle for a 28.8 speed
even on a 33.6 modem.

That is a pretty good price for a 33.6 if it is a name brand.  I would
find out what kind it is first, though.

if you buy a U.S. Robotics 33.6 modem, you get a free software upgrade
to 56k (half the speed of ISDN over a normal analog phone line). but
they do cost about $160.

And you need to be sure there's a USR 33.6 modem on the other side!
