Matt,
My understanding was that you could get by without Bus Mastering and that
sometimes all it acheives is to use up a valuable IRQ. However I did
install it for a friend and it didn't use an IRQ. I think the Intel site
has all the appropriate drivers. Try

drivers are there somewhere but I can't be bothered to find them right

Not true. Busmastering gives higher transfer rates for UDMA drives and most
importantly ( for me ) much lower CPU usage. All you overclocked guys WANT
the lowest CPU usage possible. Using a benchmark program designed to measure
cpu usage for direct to hard drive recording , I went from 50% cpu usage to
below 5% just by using busmastering drivers.

Don't be too quick to condemn the M/S Win98 drivers.Using the Intel B/M
drivers designed for my MoBo I got 7-9 % CPU usage . With the Win98 Standard
Dual PCI driver I'm getting below 5 % !!!I have not found a good test program
for tranfer rate yet but all my benchmarking programs show slightly better
results with the Standard Dual PCI driver.I did upgrade to Win98 with minimal
problems ( my Thriller 3d didn't work but Hercules released a new driver
yesterday that fixed it ) and yes my GPL now won't work but I was getting
tired of lapping Watkin's Glen alone and I'm sure the final release will
address the Win98 issue so I can wait. Think long and hard about forgoing the
benifits of Busmastering just so you can play a one track, one car demo (
even though it's the best sim ever ).
