GPL hotlapping & criticism

With regards to the debate on the GPL hotlapping, and*** the tail
out:

I know there are a few, but how many of you guys have ever done a
qualifying
lap? In a real racecar?
Poor people who have posted replays of their hotlaps; they nearly get
flamed for sliding and*** the tail out, this is not real etc.
On a hot/qual lap you are pushing the limits.
Yes, you do lock up tires braking, going in too deep, throwing the car
sideways to aid braking. I agree it is somewhat overdone in GPL, but
I used exactly the same techniques in N2.
IRL, I have also done this, brake way deep,*** wheels onto the
dirt,
chop kerbs,*** the tail out.
You are *trying* to go faster!
This kills the cars, naturally, and will not happen during races later..

I am improving, I can do the same laptimes now without sliding all over
the place,
Just like In Real Life.

Please hold the debate until we get the full version. For all I know I
am
driving with 80PSI in the tires, and a full stiff Rear AntiRollBar.
And stop comparing GPL to "Grand Prix - the movie". It's like comparing
"Days of Thunder" to nascar. They are both as accurate...

GPL may not be our saviour, but it is the best sim to appear yet IMO.

All Best,
Matt

Grand Prix the movie was one of the few movies which Enzo supported.  The movie
was a little off but colser then many other movies ever done on racing.  Even
comparing it to Days of Thunder is ridiculous.
Plus in real life qualifiing is what sepreates the men form the boys.  Its
where you try to get everylast once out of car, and if that requires a little
oversteer and driving over curbs then so be it.

Snip

You've just jogged my memory - and now I remember why the cars in
"Grand Prix - the movie" DON'T look as though they handle like '67 GP
cars - they weren't.   Most (not all) of the shots used "GP Cars"
specifically built for the film.   Jim Russell built them using  early
Formula Ford chassis and lookalike bodywork.  I think the engines were
standard Cortina road engines, too, to keep the price down.   So if
you're watching the film, look for the wooden exhaust pipes.....

Road & Track did a little article about Grand Prix a while back.  As a racing
movie it is the best in depicing actual racing action, a lot of the fottage is
from actual Grand Prixs.  Most ofthe close ups were done the day before the
race so they would have a the stands full.  Infact Gardner was complimeneted by
many of the Grand Pris drivers for his proess behind the wheel of aGP car
