Problem with calibration

by Andre Warrin » Wed, 17 Nov 1999 04:00:00

Hi, since 1.2 and new 3dfx drivers, allmost all of my gpl problems are
solved (hardly any hangups anymore). But I've still got one very
annoying problem. Very often, when I join a race from within Spyboy,
GPL starts, and it goes to the calibration screen. My wheel and pedals
don't respond.
I have to quit, start gpl without spyboy, calibrate again (my wheel
does work then), quit gpl, and after that Ican join a race again.
This seems to happen irregulary, but quite often, maybe one out of
five races that I join.

I have GPL 1.2, the newest spyboy version (xx.xx.17 or something like
that), LWFF and CH pedals.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated :)

same problem here, but I get this less often. I have the same wheel and
I suspect the logitech drivers ;-)

Andre,

Could it be that's the wingman profiler which causes these problems? Try
disabling it and assign the keys within GPL itself.

Jan.

There's a known problem with the LWFF drivers and DX7: the controller
isn't recognised by W98, so the game wants to calibrate.
If that's your problem, this is the solution. Before going into GPL (or
Spyboy), open the controller applet from the W98 configuration screen,
after a second the ID will turn from 'unknown' to 'OK'. Confirm it by
clicking the OK button. In my case I also have to open 'Properties',
then 'Settings', and 'OK' my way back. Otherwise GPL still wants to
calibrate. I've made a shortcut to the applet on my desktop, to minimise
the annoyance. I do it routinely now before starting up GPL.

BTW I'm using the 3.20 drivers without the Profiler.

Though this won't be of any hope it may be interesting.  I have a similar
problem with the DTR demo, most of the time the controls are okay but every
so often when I try and race on-line I get no response from the controls and
have to reasign them and reconnect to the server, not all the time and not
in single player mode yet.

Strange but true!

I am having a very similar problem with my homemade wheel.  When I join a
race using SpyBoy, the calibration screen comes up, I have to calibrate,
adjust the linearity slider and then it joins the server.  It seems to
happen about 50% of the time.

As a side note:  I discovered how poorly a non-linear setting feels to me.
It felt like I was trying to drive with a full dose of cold medicine...
dis-connected...

Funny, in the beginning I read that full linear is the best setting,
but I found it impossible to drive with full linearity. A few weeks
ago I tried again, full linearity, and it was such a big improvement!

Yes, the same thing happened to me when I went frpom DX 6.1 to DX7--I'm
hoping for a workaround, without having to try the difficult step back to DX
6.1.

In my case, going to game controllers usually works: I then see "unknown" in
controllers, followed by an "OK" as the wheel (TM SuperSport) becomes
"seen."  But it won't become seen unless I actually go into control panel
and game controllers . . .
