Nascar 3 n3.ini question

by Brian Sinclai » Sun, 10 Oct 1999 04:00:00

Hi,

I have a question about the entries on the n3.ini file. The readme documents
very well the settings but, miine have a couple that are not documented: CPU
and SOUND. Do someone knows what they mean?

Thanks,

Brain

I think those settings are put in the ini file when N3 is installing and it
checks your CPU and sound card.

On my P2-450 with Sound Blaster Live, it reads:

RAST 1
SND 1
CPU 2

I don't know what the RAST is...

3D rasterizer.

The following three lines are written to the N3.INI based on the
selections you make during the game's installation:

RAST X
SND X
CPU X

Where:

RAST 0 = Software
RAST 1 = Glide
RAST 2 = Direct3D

SND 0 = 8-bit sound
SND 1 = 16-bit sound

CPU 0 = P200 or lower
CPU 1 = P200 to P2-400
CPU 2 = P2-400 or better

The CPU option is used the set the default graphic details and intro
movie quality.  The others should be self explanatory.

Those values are only used the first time the game is loaded,
afterwards the values written out by the game to the options.cfg take
priority.

But it doesn't matter, what's written there:
If there is an additional Voodoo card in the system, N3 always starts with
Voodoo, at least om my system.

According to the readme:
Some users with an add-on 3D card (such as a Voodoo1 or Voodoo2) may
prefer to use their primary display adapter for Direct3D.  By adding a
raster_device variable to the N3.INI, you may select between primary
(0) and secondary (1) D3D devices:

RASTER_DEVICE n
