GPL railriding makes you faster?

by Pierc » Mon, 24 Jan 2000 04:00:00

I heard people saying that railriding in GPL gives you faster laptimes...
I tried railriding at the esses at Watkins Glen but it didn't give me any
faster times... I have saved a replay of me riding the rails... Can anyone
tell me what I am doing wrong? Is it my technique?

you are not railriding at the right place.  Try rails on the second two
turns at Monza (I mean the 2nd and 3rd of the 4 REAL turns, I don't know the
turn numbers exactly) and you will see how much of an advantage it can be if
you do it right.

p.s. many people consider railriding cheating !!

Railriding is cheating allright. Don't try it on VROC !
Just tried it for fun last week at Monza. (wanted to see my name again for
the fastest lap as some dutch guy took it from me) Well my name will stay
there for long time I guess because I did a 1.26.5
did it only in Lesmo1 (I'm faster without rail in curva grande and do it in
lesmo 2 and you'll eat bushes)
BTW I tried it once just for fun and it's no fun so don't call me cheater...

If you are refering to my pst a while back then rail riding is NOT faster,

1. It is cheating, and
2. In GPL unlike some other games it cannot gain you time.

My problem was that I couldn't turn the acr around the corners and had to
rail ride, but its not good for gaining time in GPL. I'n other sims, that
allow it,. just press up against the wall and go flat out around the Monaco
haripin:-)

Many people consider railriding cheating because it IS cheating !!!!!!!
How many real open wheel cars can drive flat out against the rails and still
finish a lap ?
