That was YooHoo!  I'm sponsored by the makers
of that syrupy chocolate drink :)

Actually, I would like to take this opportunity
to thank two sponsors:

Thank you Act Labs for their fabulous RS wheel.
Brandon and the boys should be proud.

Also, thanks to BSG Labs for their killer
Intensor Chair sound system.  Hearing Remco's
Ferrari through the sub-woofer really got me
going! :)

On the race itself - I mistakenly deleted my
driver info a few weeks ago!  All my setups
are gone :(  I just downloaded some of the
world record setups from the web, and that
was the first time I've ran that Zandvoort
setup.  It realllllly pushed a lot, which
explains my inconsistency :)

I've been wanting to run some longer races
on VROC.  Those 27 laps were great!  I hope
this will start a trend toward longer races.

Oh! How did I miss that?!?

We knew you had some sort of unfair advantage! ;-)

Absolutely! Gives everybody incentive to stay longer and hone their skills
despite mishaps. A lot can happen in 27 laps!

Join us tonight!

Hi Jack,

Are you always gonna be running Zandvoort races?

I love Zandvoort, but it can get boring running the same
track day after day (for those hard-core GPL drivers).

Furthermore, what is your host name?  Is it just Jack?
Or do you change your VROC comment so we know
we're in the right race?

Questions.  Questions :-)

Jason.

Thanks for your questions, Jason!

No. I plan to change weekly with a new course offered each Saturday. The
*Monaco* series begins on Saturday, February 27.

I've chosen to make each series a week in length to give everyone a chance
to hone their skills at that week's track against quality competition and
large fields. Watch for additional announcements as the details unfold
regarding additional servers, a series-supporting web site, and championship
series.

Practice/Race times have not yet been established for Saturday and Sunday
races. *** I would like to hear from those of you interested in
participating so that I can schedule Saturday and Sunday races to accomodate
the most drivers. Let me hear from you! ***

Host Name: J. Rambo

Bring that screaming Ferrari to Zandy and join the fun, Jason!

I don't race that much on weekends.  Ummm..  I'll think about what times would
be best.

The Eagle has been my current car of choice, but hey, there are 7 races in a
week.  I can race one car a day ;-)

Race Report
Circuit van Zandvoort
02/25/99

Pat Dotson made it clear the changes that Team Lotus made to his Lotus 49
suited him just fine as he laid down a blistering time to beat of 1:24.88.
Dotson had seen an overnight improvement in his qualifying time of 1.58
secs. thanks to a few chassis tweaks and gearing changes that he had
recommended to Colin Chapman. The changes made to the Lotus cars seem to
help Steve Blankenship, as well, as he dropped his qualifying time by 1.40
secs. from his Tuesday outing, taking the second spot on the grid with a
1:25.48. Ferrari driver Karl Ikonen rounded out the top three grid positions
with a time of 1:26.15.

Dotson escaped at the start, but following a little start line/first lap
mayhem, teammate Blankenship found himself in 7th on the second lap. In the
mean time, hard-charging Lotus driver Hans Buscher, who had experienced
electrical difficulties in qualifying and had started 11th on the grid, dove
into 2nd place ahead of Eagle driver Jeff Burrowes, only to be clipped by
the careening Burrowes, who had braked slightly too late going into
Tarzanbocht in his attempt to hold off Buscher. The contact allowed Vic
Eiland to sneak his Lotus into the second spot, which he held until lap 5
when he was overtaken by Buscher following a spin approaching the
Hugenholtzbocht hairpin.

Eiland and Burrowes subsequently retired, leaving Dotson, Buscher, and
Blankenship to cruise home for a 1-2-3 sweep for Lotus. But the sweep
appeared to be in doubt for a moment when a hard-charging Blankenship,
hoping to erase the full lap lead held by Dotson as he entered the final
turn of the race, inadvertently tapped the slower moving Dotson who was
still recovering from a last lap off-road excursion at Panoramabocht. Dotson
recovered from the scary incident to take the chequer.

Colin Chapman admitted to having to separate the two drivers in the paddock
after the race and commented, "The boys have gathered their wits and
realized that it was just one of those unfortunate racing things. By later
this evening, they'll be the great chums they've always been."
