First Grand Prix!

Just finished my first full length GPL Grand Prix last night at no less than
the Nurburgring! Finished 11th out of 20, one lap down, but my ultimate goal
had simply been to finish the race and stay out of trouble which I
accomplished. Spun a couple of times, but kept the car on the track both times
and didn't hit anything. Early on I tapped one of the other cars (before they
all disappeared :) and bent something. The car kept pulling gently to the right
for the rest of the race. With about two laps left I brushed a wall and that
caused my steering to start pulling the other direction. The car was still
controllable, but somewhat squirrly and very hard to steer around fast right
handers. On the last lap Hill, Brabham, and Hulme passed me to put me a lap
down. I wanted to fight so's I could finish on the lead lap, but the car just
wasn't handling right so I relucantly let 'em through. Even with a broken car
and finishing a lap down it was still a very fun experience.

Many people complain about how hard sims like this are, but what they don't get
is the sense of accomplishment one feels after a long tiring race, or winning
one's first race, or setting a personal best, or just finally figuring out how
best to get around a tough corner. No other game (I hate applying that word to
GPL!) I know of comes anywhere close.

Wow, congrats! I only drove full Grand Prix at Monza, but a full GP at
the Ring is quite something else! Have to try that sometime.
In a distant future :)

First of all congrats on the ring.

And second I must say that all sim-racers should own a copy of GPL, because
it is giving the finest training for all other sim wether they are truly
*** or no. Try taking a few laps on GPL and the Monaco Gp simulation
and you'll know Even though they are not alike GPL still gives you the hard
training you need to succeed in other sims. (in my oppinion, which is highly
subjective.)

I hear that a number of potential N4 customers are now lining up to buy GPL
so as to get a grip on the physics engine before it's release.

I have often wondered how many people, in addition to myself,
have got into GPL specifically for that reason, hehe.  I've even
tried vroc a time or 2 amazingly enough.

I hope they don't get turned off by the complexity of GPL.  It should only be
used as a tool to see how detailed physics can get :-)

Well Done!  I have tried a couple of GP Length races at Monza
but have never managed to get further than 20 or 30 laps before
wrecking the Lotus.  I can only begin to imagine the intense
concentration required for a GP at the ring,  I have managed a 5
lapper in a F3 car there without hitting anything and I was
mentally exhausted after that!

I've driven a few full-length races at Monza, Watkins, Spa, and Silverstone.  I
tried one at Monaco, but the chicane bit me on lap 24... :(
