If Need for Speed is so highly regarded by many many game players..
why is it not talked about in this newsgroup?

Well, NFS was discussed about quite a bit here, back when it first came
out. There was also a bit of discussion about NFS-SE when it came out
although it was mostly on the negative side.

The reason I think NFS doesn't get much talking about here lately, is that
there is no way to tweak and tune the vehicles. I still like NFS a lot and
play it every now and then, nothing like a head to head run in the alpine
track doing 180mph past normal traffic and cops to make you smile.

Nothing stopping us from talking about it <G>, I'm sure there's
lots of people here that own it, but probably we spend more time playing
Nascar or GP2 lately.

Cheers.

I agree.  The lack of posts about NFS (SE) is in no way a
reflection of the quality of the game--it's a terrific game, but
'tweakable' games like Indy2 and GP2 tend to promote more discussion.
Most of the posts about NFS tend to revolve around getting the various
cheats to work.  :(
Anyway, It's not quite a sim, but it's definitely a fantastic
racing 'game'.  Btw, there are some NFS pages on the Web that might be
worth checking out...you can probably find them all with Alta Vista.

Need for Speed is very popular but is not a racing simulator!  This group
is dominated by race sim enthuesiest and thus it gets left out.

I run both NFS and NASCAR and absolutely enjoy them both.  NFS gives me
high thrills, high speeds, exciting tracks with great car handling and
simulation for a short time committment (can play races in minutes).  I
read about the NFS supercars in car mags. frequently and the game gives
me a first hand feel of them.  I own a Supra so I especially like kicking
***with it.  My biggest wish for NFS is that they will offer car update
disks with a broad range of car classes.  I'd love to have a pony car
shootout (Camaro, Mustang, Firebird) or a battle of the big sedans
(Seville, Bonneville SSE, Aurora, Impala SS, Crown Vic).  In fact, this
generic car simulator would be a great car buyers guide.  I think R&T and
EA could make big bucks off of this idea.

Now, NASCAR gives me realistic stock car racing excitment.  I am a NASCAR
nut.  I watch every Winstom Cup race on TV (Bill's my man) and I love the
knowledge of the track and car handling that NASCAR Racing gives me.  The
side-by-side, in-a-pack racing is pure, heart-pounding excitment.  Tire
wear, gas milage and engine fade make the racing more than just a
mindless, speed contest.  You gotta really have a strategy to win these
races. The high graphic details, car paint jobs and current year car sets
(thanks to The Pits and IWCCCARS) are delightful eye candy and add
realism.  Definitely need to round out the track offerings with the new
tracks on the WC schedule.

Any NFS or NASCAR racers in the 612 area that want to compete, let me
know!!

Jim

I've tried GP1 and liked it, but the graphics lacked detail, the lack of
pack racing made it a bit boring, and I'm just too biased toward NASCAR
style racing to make an honest comparison.
