Hi

I am playing GP3 with the GP3Update2002 and the gpx patch...any tips for
making online gameplay easier?

Yeah, try switching to another game.  GP3 online, in my experience and using
a Cable modem, is as slow as our current president.  To me it's not a viable
option.

Yep, I'd second that. GP3 is a great game, but unfortunately it's not really designed to support net play unless both parties have excellent connections. It's also a nightmare to get
running as both computers need to have absolutely identical copies of GP3. Unfortunately GP4 won't have net play either, but I'm still hopeful that GP5 will...!
