I hear that the Turn 9 terrace is pretty good or the start/finish
grandstand.  Anybody out there with an opinion on this?

I'll be sitting in turn 9 for sunday's race but for saturday's race I am
open to suggestions.

If you have to stay in just one place, up above turn 2 and 3 can be a lot of
fun. Turn 9 lets you see a lot of the track. I haven't even tried the S/F
line grandstands. I guess it's good for watching pit work, but a pit pass
would be better still. Personally I hate staying in one place at a track.
Have fun. Sears now has a bunch of restrictions on what you can bring to the
track, like shade and coolers, so look at that list carefully.

Yep, the stands between two and three or anywhere in that area is a good
seat. But it's hot as heck there too. Bring suntan lotion. Everybody hides
under the stands until the race.
First year I went I had tickets in the stands at the s/f line. Agreed
that it's better to get a pit pass than sit there. Not much to see but  the
pit stops.
    Best,
Gavel

Hi Tim...

Actually, those going to the Sears WC race this year will find that its just
about impossible to find a bad seat now.  With all the hills removed or
pushed back....the new terrace seating in T7 through T9....and the new 50K
seat grand stand on the new main straight......its pretty awesome actually.
There are some small (very small) disadvantages to each seating
section.....but all of them now allow you to see from 70% to a 100% of the
track.....from each viewpoint (seating section).  My personal favorite is
the Earnhardt (T2) Terraces.  But, the new grandstand seating on the main
straight is very spectacular as well.

Gavel's suggestion about watching for the sun and heat is a VERY good one.
There's little or no shade at Sears.....be prepared for a hot day.
Additionally, it gets windy out there in the afternoon.....so you need to be
able to cover up for that........sunburned skin and then wind....yikes, you
can get miserable really fast!  I just left the track about an hour
ago....it was blowing pretty hard and it will still around 85 degrees.
But...with the wind, it felt more like 60 degrees.  Had I been
sunburned.....I would have been very cold.

Have fun....I'm sure you will.

Where is the best place to watch Nascar at Sears Point?

Just got back this evening and had a great time.  On Saturday, we just got
general admission seats. ($40!! for a featherlite series race!??...jeez,
LVMS Busch series race was $50 for a premium seat!)  Anyway, had a chance to
walk around the track and watch a portion of the race from all of the
seating areas.  Here is my rundown:

S/F Grandstand-This is brand new and has about 40-50 rows.  You can only see
as far away as turn 7, 9 and the start/finish/pit road area.  You can't see
the hairpin or turn 2 - 4 from here.  I'd estimate about 50% of the track
you can see from here but the view of pit lane has got to be the best in all
of Nascar.  From the first row of the grandstand, you could throw your beer
on the pit crew!

Turn 2/3/4-This is the highest portion of the track and from here you can
see all but turn 10 and the hairpin to about the s/f line.  About 80% of the
track.  This is also a great place to see a lot of contact up close (turn 2
& 4) and some passing.

Turn 7-Another great place to view the track as long as you're up high near
the top of the terrace. You can see most of the track here except turn 1-2
and turn 9-10.  About 80% of the track however the hairpin and s/f line are
a long ways away from here so have binoculars.

Turn 9-Probably the best place to sit.  You can see about 90% of the track
here including the hairpin.  Can't see turn 7 or a couple seconds after turn
1 and turn 10 but all else is in view.  They have leveled the mound that
used to be in front of turn 9 and the view is better than ever.

Also noticed that turn 7 appears to be different.  There is no longer a sand
pit there but it has all been paved and the turn extends into that area for
a sharp turn of maybe 120 degrees.  A couple of the overhead walkways are
gone and replaced by underground tunnels and of course all the cars can pit
in the main pit lane now.

A couple other notes, parking was horrendous.  Left Vallejo at 8am and
didn't get to the track until 11:30.  The place was about 20% empty at the
start of the race because of traffic.  B1 Bombers have got to be the coolest
flyby plane there is!! ;)

Yes, there is a need for road courses in Nascar!!  And how about adding some
dirt tracks too!
