DX9 out !!!

The thing is, if it comes with a game, the game probably requires it for
some new feature that it is using, so you may not have a choice.

DX9 out !!!

Yeah, 8.2 came with CFS3, but after I installed it, several other games
*stopped* working.  If I had known how bad CFS3 was/is, I never would have
bothered.  I guess what pisses me off the most is that CFS installed it w/o
even telling the FDU (that's me) that it was installing 8.2, not 8.1a or
b...not that I knew to avoid 8.2 then (I only found out what a loser it is
afterwards, reading the newsgroups...which--I know, I know--I shoulda done
*beforehand*!).

OTOH, DX9 is going to be a must-have for almost any game released from now
on.  I already have a voluminous collection of 9-only demos.

DX9 out !!!

I gave it a go on Win2k, with a Gf4 4200 (128Mb), SB live 5.1 & VIA 686B
chipset mobo.

Gpl works just fine (OpenGL), no the sound issue is not fixed, I tried
putting the acceleration up to full, then normal, neither worked properly,
so it's back on low again same as before. I never had any noticeable
crackling, so I can't really say whether that's improved or not.

Viper Racing (D3D) works just as well as it did before too.

No install problems, no incompatible drivers, although it shows my nVidia
41.09 drivers as not certified. I thought they were but so what at the end
of the day.

It's fine, but I can't find any significant changes except for the little
midi tune dxdiag plays ;-)

I wasn't really expecting any though, but at least it works!

No problem with uninstalling if you create a restore point in XP first. I
have been using the betas from ATI for several weeks and no trouble

Agreed, Steve. My son brought home MechWarrior 3 today which he
picked up in the bargain bin, and it conviniently offered to
install DX 6.0 as the installed version (8.1) wasnt new enough.
How cool is that? ;-)

Cheers,

uwe

Yes, but everything else you 've done will also be erradicated if you use
system restore.

System Restore was never intended to be used as a standard software
uninstaller.  It suprises me not that Microsoft themselves are the first to
require it to uninstall certain products.  Sheesh...

It can be used to create a restore point easily before installing any new
drivers/software.

There is a DX9 uninstaller prog out there. Can't remember the url, but just
type 'dx9 uninstall' into Google.
It worked for me.
