It's an arcade racer....but a very good arcade racer, and probably one I
will buy. Unfortuantely, there are many, many people who seem to believe
the same way. It is a VERY GOOD arcade racing game. Probably the best
ever! Great job Papy! Extremely fun game so far!

I also like the "demo", for what it is, but, by the same token, those who find
something objectionable about it have as much right to express it here as you or I
have!!

Im sure those cars handled bad..but not like this.

An arcade racer?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Are you on crack? This is buy far the MOST
realistic racing sim EVER! You obviously have very little knowledge of how a
motor vehicle handles and how to race one. I can't blast you for stating an
opinion but I can sure tell you how warped your sense of perception and reality
is!

But I don't think GPL is an arcade racer either like some GPL bashers
have repeatedly said.

The more I play with GPL, the more I think that people who are
complaining about the cars handling like a "skating rink" are being
affected by the slow frame rate. The slower the frame rate the harder
it is to control. Even with my PII 300 and my Rendtion Intense 100 (aka
Reactor), I need to use one of the lower resolutions. I've also removed
the arms and wheel. While they do a good job of "filling" the space in
the empty tub between my wheel and the screen, I've found that I can
actually "sense" the movement of the 3d***pit better without the arms.
With the arms my eye misses the nuances of the shifting 3d tub. I have
found that I can control the beast better without a second pair of
hands. I also get a slightly better frame rate.
Hopefully Papy has greatly optimized the graphics engine since the
build of this demo. We are certainly going to need it once we start
adding other cars.

exactly what the post he is referring to is, a Troll. There is no way
anyone in their right mind could honestly say that GPL is an arcade
racer. So as it stands, we are just feeding a Troll by continuing this

Sounds like you have some kind of hardware problem there if you aren't
getting a top notch frame rate with that system. I am running an P166 (non
mmx) chip with a Reactor vidcard and have great frame rates even at the
higher resolution. Admittedly the frame rate gets kind of crappy when I am
on fire or doing off track gyrations, but whilst driving things are quite
smooth. I would think a PII300 would completely blow away my system in this
respect.

Oh, the graphics are smooth. There is only a chop coming through the
last turn and at about one other point on the track. However, I would
guestimate the frame rate to be in the low 20's and it definitely drops
below that in some of the turns. But, then I am used to the frame rate
in ICR2 and NASCAR2 with the -4 switch in DMA mode. The frame rate in
the GPL demo isn't near 30 fps for me.

Well one way to take it out is to press the space bar. ;-)
Check the Options Setup screen for Graphics, there should be a couple of
check boxes related to the "driver", uncheck them.
