GP4 - slow performance

by Billy Banan » Wed, 26 Feb 2003 09:55:37

I'm running GP4 on a PIII, 320mb Ram, 64mb Geforce2 video but I can't seem
to run it smoothly. Have run the graphics calibration a few times and this
basically puts everything to minimal details etc and makes the game far less
enjoyable.

I can run F1 2002 with everything turned on without a problem. Have killed
off any unnecessary tasks running in the background.

Anybody have similar specs and can give me a few pointers ?

While I'm at it - is there a proper driver's view in F1 2002 ?I don't like
driving from above the helmet.

Cheers

Re: F12002, if you mean***pit view, I believe that hitting Page Down will
scroll thru the available views.  One of them is***pit.  If it's not Page
Down, it's one of the 6 keys in that cluster......

As I remember, you can change the view if you go to the Options->Display and
find default view option.

You won't have much luck with GP4 with a system less than a 2gb Athlon with
a GF3 if you want full details. You're going to have to sacrifice some
quality as the game is quite a resource hog. Turn off reflections and
advanced lighting first, then reduce the shadow detail to low. Turn off ALL
the overlays like the circuit maps and TV broadcasts because for some reason
these slow the game down a fair bit. All those options should still leave
GP4 looking good and run a bit smoother for you. There's an INI file you can
edit to turn off some options that aren't in the menu.

Don't do the auto -calibration, set it to manaul and stuff with the settings
yourself.
