Some F1-2000 and GPL talk (notice I didnt say "VS" ;)

Hey Jeff,
I know what you`re saying, and I agree with you. I should have gone into
more detail in my original post, because as I re-read it I can see that it
would be easy for some people to get the wrong idea. I know for a fact that
many..... in fact> MOST "GPL people" (cant think of a better term right now
..lol) are great guys that are very helpful and fun to talk with. I was only
trying to point out that I think some GPL`ers (that better ;) have let this
sim go to their heads.... they are on some kind of power trip that I have
yet to figure out. Anyway.... you are right, I should try GPL again. Like I
said, I was very impressed with it the first time I tried it, but at that
time I didnt have the system to run it. I think the reason I dont give it
another try on my new system is because I know that it`s a very demanding
game/sim.... and although I know I would find that rewarding, I also know
that I would be starting at the bottom with so many people so far ahead of
me. I also like to play about 5 or 6 different games these days.... so I
would not be able to devote that much time to GPL (and I know I would need
to spend a lot of T I M E with it to do well at it) . But just for the sake
of seeing exactly what it`s like on a fast system I plan to install it
again, and who knows.... maybe I`ll never wana stop :)

All the best,
Lorne

Some F1-2000 and GPL talk (notice I didnt say "VS" ;)

It's so nice to hear some reasonable people rendering their honest opinion of a
game, and not letting their egos get involved. I visit this site looking for
opinions on what is fun and worth buying, but sometimes the personal arguments
get in the way of dispensing good information concerning the merits of a game
without regards to the available competition. Afterall, does a Lexus LS400
rate as a bad car just because you prefer a Mercedes or BMW. I don't think so.

..but what when the Lexus is as expensive as the BMW or Mercedes, or when the
BMW and Mercedes get as cheap as the Lexus?

Ok, I have a K6/2-350, 128MB, V3.  I can run GPL at 36fps(most of the time) at
640x480 if I turn off most of the graphics settings.(hold on, let me check...)
Ok, I have object, wall, car, driver, and track trxture on.  Crowds, trees,
beveled tires on.  Cars&track in mirror, trackside objects - all(I need SOME
brake markers).  The detail slider it between the 'L' in detail and the 'B' in
bias.  Aside from the sad fact that most people get better fps with less, will
this rig really run F1-2000 well enough to bother?
