I think it was Phil Lee was claiming Surtees was his nemesis. Do the
different drivers have different styles - you bet! Clark keeps out of
trouble , Brabham is a nutbox. McLaren is my own personal hate. That man is
more interested in beating me than winning a race I swear. Bog.

I always find that Chris Irwin is an absolute pig to lap. Does this
bloke know what a blue flag is?

I'm sure it's nothing personal on either of our parts, but it seems
every time I have a mishap, Bonner is somewhere close by....

When racing the cooper I had personal problems with Rodriquez.
Now since I race eagle/lotus I frequently find McLaren in my boot.

Now, now, now, young David! Whoa there!! :-)
Blue flags back in the 1960's did NOT mean that it was required to move over
and let a fast car pass.  They were simply advisory and were used to let the
foremost car know that another vehicle was closing rapidly or was
immediately behind.

There was no requirement for the driver to cede to what may have been a
faster-lapping competitor.

Is like driving on the fastlane in America, you can flash your highbeam run
your bumper up their ass. THey still won't move for you

AI Driver Personalities

I personally find all the BRMs hard to lap.  Especially when they're running in
a pack with the Cooper's at Zandvoort.  Just this morning, I had to run into
the grass on the inside out of the last turn to avoid a slow-moving Cooper.
Then, I ended up getting trapped behind Chris Irwin's BRM.  I finally ended up
banging wheels with him, which resulted in my Lotus sliding down the front
straightaway upside down.  Also, John Surtees is of course the dumbest AI car
I've ever seen.  But the hardest car I've ever seen to lap is probably Chris
Amon's car during Practice.  He always seems to coast along at 20 mph right at
the apex of a turn while you're running in a pack of cars...  I banged wheels
with him in the last turn of Kyalami during Practice once, jumped over the
grass, and still had my hot lap of the day up until then.  :)

AI Driver Personalities

I used to find qualifying a real pain in the ass, due to the fact that I
would be halfway round a good lap only to see a speck in the distance
and knowing full well that this was one of the computer AI doing his
sunday driving style in or out lap, and also knowing full well that I
was going to catch him before my good lap was over.  And also knowing
full well that he was going to be at his slowest through the next bend
losing me at least a half to 1 second off my time.  :(

However, I found the setting in the gpl_ai.ini (I think it's called
that) that allowed me to up their speeds during these 2 laps.  Since
that time I've had no probs with the AI during qualifying/practice.

Unfortunately I'm currently going through a very careful reinstall of
windows at the mo, due to system failure, and haven't got round to
putting GPL back on my system so I can't point directly to the offending
line.  Hopefully, if anyone is interested, then someone else will be
able to post the definitive answer.  If no-one else posts an answer,
then I'll probably do so in a couple of days.

I am new at GPL (I found it the other day at a used book store for $20
US) and one of the first things I found interesting was the way the
different AI drivers drove a track.  I love the driving style of Clark,
it is so smooth and almost noiseless, while Brabham seems to want to
break his car.

How was the AI for each driver arrived at by the programmers ?

Go to your GPL directory and find the Driver.ini file. Backup this file
first!. Change the "global_hype_scaling" value to 1.20 (This equates to
the AI drivers at roughly 80% potential) or whatever value you feel
happy with? A higher value than 1.00 slows down the AI, a lower Value
than 1.00 speeds them up.

I'm not sure if this is what I was referring to.  The line I changed
specifically only affected the AI drivers in and out lap speeds and
nothing else.  I think your change affects everything.

Aah, found it!  If you're having probs with slow AI in and out laps then
change this line in you gpl_ai.ini file:

slow_lap_speed_adj_coeff = 0.900000

0.9000 means that their speeds are 90% of their normal racing speed.
What that equates to is something like a normal 1:40 lap taking over
1:50 - over 10 seconds slower per lap and they won't move over when you
catch 'em.  I've bumped mine up to 0.980000 which keeps them well out of
the way. :)
