Why CART/IRL should get back together ...

In the major metro market of Boston the local ABC affiliate doesn't
broadcast CART anymore.  Instead they preempt it with stuff like
Oklahoma and paid infotainment from people like Billy Banks.  I have to
run up rabbit ears and pull in a crappy signal from Nashua, NH.

Nascar, yeah, cool for the last 15 laps, but I can't stay awake an
entire race.  Bad dreams about my commute too.  Formula 1 has some
neato pit strategy and nifty pneumatic valves, thats cool.  I'm really
starting to like motor cycle racing (look drafting! - ever seen the
racing at Brainard (spelling?), multiple lines!, tire strategy!).
Please CART and IRL, do what you need to do to pull in the ratings.
Keep some road and some oval.  How about more road courses with
passing?  Maybe dump a couple of the parade temp road courses for
regular road courses?

The goose is sick ...

Have you complained to your local Station Manager?  Have you urged your
friends/fellow CART fans to do the same? A few years back, my local station
tended to do the same...even going as far as prempting for 2 hours local
coverage of nobody golfing during a rainstorm...and with 2 teams (Rahal &
Tasman) and 5 drivers in town.  The station heard about it BIG time, and hasn't
prempted since.

>BOTH sides need to find a
>mutually-agreeable, common ground.

"BOTH sides" didn't create the "split"....let Tony G. keep his SpecRacer 500.

...And, here's to Dario for executing the two best moves of the day at
StL.....putting Paul into the wall <eg> and negotiating Turn 4 sideways.

Here in Philadelphia, Pa our local abc channel cut the Cart race out also.
I was told  {by local abc channel} they were told to block it out or No
Indy today! Orders by the upper abc brass! Is this legal??

You mean Channel 6?  I live out here in Villanova (Adelphia Cable) and it came
in just fine!!  Good race, BTW.  Glad our PA homeboy pulled it out.

I'd really doubt the "upper" ABC brass would issue this kind of order.
They do
have a "contract" with the CART league.  However, indidvidual stations are
not
binded by the Network contract.  Often local stations replace some network
content with their own little money makers...(infomercials)
So that sounds like a Station Manager trying to shift blame or
criticisism(sp?)
away from his own penny-pinching to the network.
Having said that...I will add this factoid:
Disney is a de facto partner with the IRL.  They sponsor a race venue etc.
Disney owns ABC which is the money behind ESPN.
Disney has in the past influenced news stories prepared by ABC, if they
are non-plused about mucking with the news...then you can bet they
will stick their noses into the sports department as well.
  You decide  :>
