I'm going to build a new PC and GPL an the forthcomming Nascar3 are my main
priority.
My questions are these:

1. The TNT2 graphics card has the best spec, but I could not get a TNT card to
work with GPL while the Voodoo2 does (although I prefer my ageing Thriller) so
do I get the Voodoo3-3000 instead? Or will the upcomming GPL patch and Nascar3
make full use of the TNT2?

2. I will probably go for the P111-550 proccessor. Will Nascar3 take advantage
of the new (KNI) instruction set?

I have run GPL on a P111-500/Voodoo2 combo and was quite unimpressed with the
performance compared with my overclocked P11-333(375)/Thriller compbo. Only
seeing at best a 10% increase in frame rate.

With the GPL demo plus feedback from beta testers we had a lot of info. to go
on as to the power required to run GPL.

Now us computer builders and upgraders require this info. so that we can
optimise our systems ready for the eagerly looked forward to GPL patch and
Nascar3.

Who knows...depends on if they have finished their OpenGL beta rasterizer or
not..perhaps Eric Busch or Randy Cassidy can comment.  If not, the TNT2 will
most likely work no better than the TNT with OpenGL, mileage may vary.

Got a Voodoo2 already?  Get a TNT2 and hang onto the Voodoo2 til GPL/N3/et
al supports either OpenGL fully or D3D.

When did the P111 come out?  Last I saw we were only on the P3s! :)  Depends
as much on the graphics drivers as the developers.  I probably would expect
the answer would be no, but ya never know.

Use the same specs as needed now, increase slightly and then you will have a
rough estimate.

No:) run from the voodoo3 and run far! :)

If you have to choose now, i'd still says  TNT2 and the keep your old V2.
However, that was before the confusion over the TNT2 clock speed

hmm, either way get lots of heatsinks nad internal fans 8)

If the Voodoo3 is going to give him the best performance for the games he
wants to play, why are you telling him to stay away from them?  I wasn't
aware that N3 used large textures or 32-bit color so why are you telling him
to stay away from Voodoo3?  Try to be more impartial here.  N3 may totally
suck on TNT2, you know GPL will suck on it.

Yep, its true.
I had a TNT before, it works, but compared to the V3 3000 i have now, that
was real bad..
not only for GPL, but for any games i have ever tried.

Have fun !

Some people are buying hardware to have a nice box on the shelf, others buy
hardware that fits the software they use.

Guess, which group of people has more fun? ;^)

This is why I run an 8 meg thriller with a celeron 450. It runs GPL with all graphics and all
cars at 36 fps once the shift to 2nd is made, 26-28 at the back of a full grid.

I have the Thriller, too, but Zonkie was praising the TNT2...
