Thrustmaster NASCAR Pro or Supersport?

Any owners out there?

1) Does the Supersport have dual axis for GO and STOP, like the Pro?

2) I read some negative posts about the NASCAR Pro pedals, what do you like
or dislike?

3) Are Thrustmaster products reliable?

1) I don't have a Supersport (yet), but TM says it DOES have dual axis pedals
in DOS mode, and they're configurable (without rebooting) as single or dual
axis in the TM software for WIN95/98 games.
2) I tried a Nascar Pro and the pedals sunk it; more specifically, their angle
and position, both of which have been changed on the SS.  They moved around
under foot and were tiring to use.  I'm using CH pedals now, which are great,
though they could stand some additional resistance.  The Nascar Pro wheel and
mounting setup was excellent, though the buttons were poorly placed and it had
no shift paddles.  Both shortcomings have been rectified with the SS , and a
couple more buttons have been added, as has a steel steerer shaft and bushings.
Supposedly, they've solved their pedal spring breakage problem as well.
3) I've used a couple of TM GP1 wheels over the last year and a half (gave the
first to a friend when I got the Nascar Pro, & ended up swapping it for another
GP1).  The first GP1 required cleaning of the pots regularly to keep it going,
but the last hasn't given any trouble at all.  The bungee will eventually need
tightening or replacement, but it's easy to do, and bungees are never hard to
come by.  I also used some duct tape to stabilize the steering pot against the
steerer shaft bracket so the center point wouldn't move around slightly, as it
had on the first GP1.  Low-tech maybe, but it works.

In sum, the SS should be a better choice than a discounted Nascar Pro.  If you
check online price guides, street price is as low as $63, and I doubt you'll
find a Nascar Pro for less.  The Logitech Wingman Formula looks like a possible
contender at the $65-70 price point, but I don't know if it supports dual axis
pedals; Their site doesn't say, and they never responded to an email on it.

Hope this helps,

Steve B.

SteveB - Thanks for all the information, guess I will  look for a SS Wheel.
In my area there is only one CompUSA store and they have never had the SS,
only Pro and Sprint.

BTW - I tried to e-mail Logitech but couldn't find the address on the Web
site, then I tried the 800 sales information phone number, but there was no
option to speak to a person. I had the same experience with Diamond, they
bounce back any e-mail support questions with a auto responder. It's only
after two bounce backs will they reveal the secret code that allows you to
get through. Of course by then it's two days later and you are really pissed
off. Just an off topic rant. :-(

...

I just installed DokB's  recommended "tennis ball under the brake pedal" for my set
of CH Pedals. Works wonderful for increasing the resistance of that pedal and the
progressive feel has really helped with smoother braking and hence lap-times. I had
a set of stiffer springs for the acclerator made at a neighbourhood spring shop,
but I suppose on that end, the standard set-up is allright, just personal
preference.

I bought the Saitek R4 Force Feedback thinking it would bring the ultimate
sim driving experience.  But I was bitterly disapointed in the slack spot in
the dead centre.  It's an attractive looking wheel but, as mentioned in the
GPL guide "Four Wheel Drift", it becomes more of a hinderance than an
enjoyment (hence no FF support).

On NF3 it felt more like trying to drive a mad cow than a racing car.  I
ended up taking the R4 FF back to the shop and exchanging it for the NASCAR
Super Sports wheel.  I'm stoked,  the SS is a groovy, tight wheel with the
option of switching the throttle and brake to seperate axes.  This is ideal
for GPL as it allows you to massage the beastly 67 machines through four
wheel powerslides.  The brake and throttle spring loads are well set up too.

The only thing you need to watch out for is the flimsy plastic locking cam
on the clamp.  It doesn't take much to over tighten it and snap the end off
the pin.  I had to do some reworking on the little jigger to get it back
together after I got too enthusiastic for solidly mounted wheel.

Why Thrustmaster must include an Achilles' heel in each of their
products, I don't know.  Yes, this locking cam can be broken with too
much tension.  However, like always, TM is hard at work coming up with a
fix.  They should be coming out with "rods" and some other mods to the
clamping device.  And as is usual for TM, any and all SuperSport owners
should be able to receive free replacements.

As soon as hear that the improved clamping devices are available, I'll
post here.
