I'm in Indy right now for the 500.  Ok, a lot of you aren't into the IRL, but
man, these cars are unbelievable to hear and see up close.  Really amazing.
These things ROAR in another dimension that is not quite captured in games.
They're far more intense.  They sound positively evil coming in from or leaving
the pits at low rpm too, not like one might imagine.

Ok, so they had a vintage cars parade too.  Jimmy Clark's '66 Lotus was there.
It's indistinguishable from the GPL car except this one had a 2 speed
transmission.  Of course, I asked the guy in charge of watching the car if he
ever played Grand Prix Legends, and without hesistation he says, "yes!"

.....
.....
"You can sit in the car as soon this crowd and these kids clear out a bit."

OH MY GOD!!!  lol  "THANKS!"

With careful instruction, and after accidentally kicking the side of the car on
the way in (I almost cried, but he said not to worry about it; I didn't hit it
hard) I climbed in and sat there....  Stunned..  The view from the***pit is
identical to the one you get in GPL.  All you see is the dashboard and the top
portions of the front wheels sticking up out there a bit.  You are absolutely
lying down in this car, just a hair above the ground.

It felt much lower than I expected.  It hugs you like a glove from all
directions, the top of the steering wheel just a hair below eye level, and your
feet are way up inside the tunnel with tiny little pedals down there somewhere.
Amazing.  I'll have to post a pic when we get these developed!  I sat there
for a few moments as he told others that the car could do around 200 mph.  I
can not imagine going that fast in this car.  You are so low to the ground...

"Going 100 mph in this feels like 200 mph," he responds to my loud thinking.
"You've driven this car?" I asked.
"Yes, I've driven it several times, including here at Indy.  I'll be running it
tomorrow if you want to come out and see."
"I'll be here," I chuckled.

The next day, all the vintage cars were out, including the Lotus.  This was
beautiful to see.  The sound was rough and uneven as he puttered by at 60-80
mph, the dual headers trying to contain the engine's dying need to cut loose
and pass the pace car..  Grr...  Why couldn't they just let these guys go nuts
out there?!  :-P

It was awesome.  Thanks for listening.  I just had to get that out of my system
:-D

I had a similar experience at the Australian GP this year with Sir Jack
Brabham's '66 Repco Brabham.  Again - the view from in the car is identical
to the Brabham I've installed for GPL (GPLEA one I think?)  It was a real
treat seeing Stirling Moss in a Cooper and Sir Jack Brabham in a Brabham
doing about 120mph down the Albert Park straight - gave my friend and I
goose bumps...

2003:

Isn't Moss's driving style nice to look at, though? I saw him race
(as oppose to demonstrate) a C-type at Donington last year (he made
up about six places at the start...), and there's pretty much no
difference between that and the pic of him racing one at Goodwood in
1953 on my wall.
