Keep the old drive and dedicate it to a specific game and you solve the
inconvenience. As cheap as CD/DVD drives are why not? The only concern
might be your Power Supply but most here likely already have spare watts.

The same could be said about the billions being spent by consumers on music
downloads. What if one of those music sites goes out of business?
For this very reason I only use subscription services (currently Yahoo). $5
a month for all I want. If they go under, I have no loss.
I know people that have spent thousands downloading music and have no idea
they really own _nothing_.
I'd rather pay a fixed small fee and own nothing than to risk that. If I
want to own it, I'll buy it on CD.
And who knows if Microsoft will ever pull XP activation to force Vista
upgrades. They _do_ have the capability to do that.

All of those have been, um, 'cleaned' :)
That doesn't work any more since iTunes 6 (unless the author fixed it).
If Apple were to offer an all-you-can eat subscription service for $10 a
month, and include ALL content on iTunes, I'd be there in a heartbeat. I
really don't like the software side of Yahoo, but it's the best deal right
now.
I also did the burn and rip method until I, um, fixed them. They do sound
better in native AAC format I think.
I use Windows Media Lossless for my entire library on the server, then use
something else to rip those down to whatever I want for the portable
players, etc...
If MS ever had the Balls to discontinue activation for XP, the fallout would
be immense, and I have no doubt the lawsuits would be flying like we've
never seen before. It would be mighty ugly.

In fact, this has already happened with GTR, it can't be used with 64
bit XP because GTR's version of SF is 32 bit and, unless Simbin
release an upgrade, it won't be useable under the 64 bit version of
Vista when it arrives.
If you were able simply to download an upgraded SF driver to be
compatible with your new operating system, this wouldn't be a big
problem either, as long as SF stays in business. But you can't. The
game's developer has to release a patch to provide the new version .
If they aren't interested in doing that, you're screwed.
In a nutshell, your confidence that you will always be able to use a
SF protected game is misplaced.

To a certain extent I agree with what you say but it's really not any
different from someone running an old game. It may or may not work
depending upon OS/hardware. If you have the hardware/OS that matches said
game it will still work just as Starforce will continue to work forever if
you keep everything the same.
Am I making a guarantee Sf will work with anything beyond what we have
todya? No, just as we can't expect my 3gig P4 to run Bill Elliott's Nascar
Challenge :)
Mitch
Starforce do, but the change from 32 to 64 bit requires the game
developers to release a patch.

Never a KILLFILE will do, Bah-Bye...
