GPL Installation Problems

Anyone encountered problems installing GPL.

I've tried installing it both using the available Typical and Full
installation options and get the following error preventing installation:

"This is not a valid CD.  Contact your vendor for further information."

Anyone got any ideas whats going on and how to cure it.

P.S. Got Colin McRae Rally to tide me over 'til I solve my GPL problems,
excellent game and graphics.  Glad to see Codemasters have smoothed out the
track since TOCA.

Mine won't install at all :(((
It just keeps telling me to put the cd with serialnr xxxxx in,
or clean it. But it is in and any other cdrom just works fine.

I'll have to wait untill monday to get back to the shop :((

Could this have something to do with their new copyprotecting
I heard of some months ago??

Am just feeling sick at the moment because of it,
waiting for more than a year for the big day and then this :((

I had this problem with my copy, so I took it straight back to the shop, and
had it swapped.
Second copy was fine - installed first time.

You get this error when you are using a copy. My guess is that the app
checks the size (697Mb) before validating! Obviously a copy will be <650 so
. . . There may also be an issue with drive letters but I'm not certain.
There IS an issue with VCD which is a major pain. Can anyone add to this?

I had the same problem.

I guess you have either a virus checker or a CD Player active (with mine it
was Mcaffeee and the 98 plus pack CD player) turn these off and hopefully
you'll be able to do a full install.

I got this message when I used my 32x drive. Then tried the 24x drive that I
have still installed, and that worked ok.

You were right, I switched off McAfee and the Deluxe CD player and it
installed fine.  Weird city.  Wonder what causes that, 'cos its never
happened before on any of my games.

Excellent game by the way, had an excellent couple of hours driving round
Silverstone and Spa.  Love the car handling, especially being able to
control powerslides.  You definitely need a steering wheel to drive it.  I
drove the demo with keyboard and was off the road more than on it, but now
I've plugged in my T2 I'm on the road more than off it (although I had some
horrendous offs at Spa - 'specially liked sliding sideways down a straight
for a very long way after over-oversteering round a corner).

Thanks for the help.  Papy will have to make a note of this 'bug' for their
first bug fix release.
