I always found that once you spun in GP2 that the car invariably ended
up going backwards, and there was no way I could do anything to reverse
its direction until it had come to a halt.
With GPL however, if you press and hold the clutch button, this will
allow you to control the spin much easier and then, if you time it
correctly, as the car spins round to point in the correct direction, get
the revs up, release the clutch and continue on your merry way.
And while I think of it, here's a little tip that may help avoid getting
in a spin in the first place in GPL. This generally works for me when I
am exiting a corner too fast and know that there is no way to avoid
putting a tyre in the dirt. What I've found is that if you straighten
the car out before hitting the dirt, so that both the front and back
tyres drift into it together, then you can pretty well keep going
without losing too much speed. I can do this with a good enough
regularity now that I hardly lose any time at all - half a second max -
when this situation occurs.
A good place to try this out is at Kyalami coming out of either Barbeque
Bend or the followin Juksket Sweep, where I can't remember the last time
that I've actually spun through those corners, or most corners at
Silverstone.
Hope someone finds this useful.
