Tony Stewart wins IRL opener!

Tony Stewart wins IRL opener!

Tony Stewart drove a virtually perfect race at DisneyLand today for the
IRL season opener. Several of the other IRL racers really need some
practice though. I've never seen so many yellows from guys spinning
themselves out by over-accelerating when coming off s turn!! Almost all
the yellows were caused by that. I know it's only the first race of the
year...but still. The last few laps certainly were exciting though.
Lazier spun himslef out, giving the lead to Mark Dismore with just
around 20 laps to go. Dismore didn't know if he had enough fuel to make
it. Stewart caught him with around 5 to go and then Dismore an out of
fuel with 2 laps left. Certainly was an exciting finish! I'm a big
Stewart fan, so needless to say, I'm a happy camper!

BTW, if you are involved in the F1RS offline competition, don't forget,
the Suzuka race is coming up this week. Be sure to send in your results

the odd thing is that TG ***ing up the 500 seems to be the best thing
that ever happened to CART.  Its grown like wildfire since, the 3 new
races this year look great!  I can't wait to watch them!  Do you think
its possible that CART might not have grown b/c the 500 overshadow all
the other races untill TG left CART?  Possibly . . .

This is interesting, according to the February 1998 issue of RACER magazine,
the CART television ratings were down 26 percent in 1997. Although the IRL
ratings also were down 30 percent, I attribute this to the rain at Indy and
the fact at least 2 of the races were not carried live. CART has no excuse
since all of their races were carried live. Incidently, the series with the
largest growth were the Craftsman Trucks at +12%.

Except that the race was at Disney WORLD in Florida, unless, by some off
chance, Disney built a new track at Disney Land in California...<g>

This is a newsgroup for "simulations" not the real thing.  (Although I would
question whether the IRL qualifies as the "real thing".)  Some of us had to
work yesterday and videotaped the race.  Thanks for ruining the finish for me.
Next time-stick to the games and leave the sports updates to ABC.

Gives you something to think about =)

But still...  CART should be INDY.

Can you *please* title such a post something like 'SPOILER - IRL result'.
The race isn't being shown over here until Tuesday and I was trying to
avoid the result :((

(and no flame wars about CART/IRL please - racing is racing and it's all
enjoyable)

Cheers,

Sorry, if this ruined it for anyone. Anytime you access the internet, email, news,
or anything where there could be information,  you assume that risk. Since you do
not run or own this newsgroup though, you won't be "ordering me" to not post or to
post anything. It was the first race of the year, I was overe***d about it and
should have included a spoiler tag. I apologize for not doing that. Next time
though, maybe you shouldn't access ANY media if you want to "SAFE". ( And don't
presume that you have the authority to tell me what to do).

It's probably the increasing popularity of Nascar.  Cart races do have
their choice moments but for overall excitiement Nascar can't be beat.
In Cart there is little side by side racing, but at the Busch race at
C***te last October Mark Martin and Jimmy Spencer battled side by
side for the lead for most of the final 20 laps.

While I'm mainly a NASCAR fan, I'd like to point out that I've seen Indy car
races with their moments, to say the least, in the past year... Tony Stewart
and someone else (I forget who) running three laps wheel-to-theel the entire
way around in the IRL race at Texas, and similar incidents at C***te (I've
never seen NASCAR boys stay precisely side-by-side that long--except last spring
at 'Dega)... the CART race at Portland, where the track was underwater to start
and was just drying out at the end, with guys *** on slicks in the wet at
the end and the first three-wide finish in history...

Of course, the spring WC race at Talladega was just amazing, but...
