Which version of Nascar is the best?

by Jeff Ingra » Wed, 27 Mar 2002 08:05:28

Hello,

I'm looking for some advice. I'd like to know which version in the Nascar
series is the best???  I've tried Nascar Heat and 3 once and I thought they
were so frigging boring!!! Just going around in a circle over and over (big
yawn.............).  So I'd like to have some idea of what the others are
like I'm used to the Need for Speed series, (Porsche Unleashed) and Colin
McRae 2 being the best!  And I won't even get into Grand Prix Legends.
Since I decided to give it a shot I've relized it's a much better game than
I thought it was.  That is when it will run under Windows XP.  I can only
run it in Windows 98 now.  I had it running in WindowsXP once, but I had to
delete and reinstall Windows XP.  Even since it starts up but doesn't even
make it to the first menu before it crashes to the desktop.

I'm just looking for more great racing titles to play with.  If someone can
give me their opinion it would sure be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff

Have fun :)

I suggest then, that you forget about Nascar titles.  They won't suit you if
you don't like racing on an oval track.

Just because Papy came out with a new version of their Nascar Racing sim
doesn't mean Nascar changed it's format.  On the bright side, you have a
few new tracks to go in circles on.  I think you can safely stick with
your console games.

try getting <ichelin Rally Masters--Its a pretty simple but fun game--NO
CIRCLES--You have to work at it!

Hmmmm... probably a NASCAR game wouldn't be all that good an idea,
then. I don't own one at all[1], for that exact reason.

[GPL]

I had that trouble. Try taking out *all* the GPL stuff, then
reinstalling everything - D3D patch, CPU speed fix, etc - one step at a
time. It might just work. Oh, and check the "last rasteriser" thingy is
set to a gfx card you've actually got!

There's not really a lot happening on the "exciting new game" front
right now. F1-2001 is probably the best modern F1 game if your PC can
cope with it; otherwise GP3 isn't as bad as some say (but it looks very
old these days). As for rallying, Rally Trophy should do the trick, but
it is hard. Rally Masters, though old, is worth a go too. And as far as
GT-type racing is concerned, there's Sports Car GT and Viper Racing, at
least until WSC comes out (ie about 2072).

[1] Except for NASCAR 2, which came in a multipack I actually bought
for Viper Racing. But N2 won't run under XP anyway, so...!

All the versions of Nascar consists of going round and round and round on an
oval track.

I tried to set up a nascar to drift but it was very inconsistent.  It seems
like a very accurate physics model, ie the cars DO handle like barges!  Even
tuned up for drift it's impossible to get the weight distribution right, it
either understeers like an oil tanker or the back end just pendulums and you
end up facing backwards.

"I've tried Nascar Heat and 3 once and I thought they

With that statement right there I would have to say that NONE OF THEM are
good for you.

Answered your own question, none of them will suit you since all you have
experience at appears to be hot lapping with them. They (NASCAR) run all
ovals but 2 tracks so thats another strike. Why one would hate oval racing
and ask about a NASCAR sim is beyond me, do any of you actually watch or
follow NASCAR? Its about the close racing, getting a 3400 lb brick to turn,
its not about going in circles...

Some how you guys use very short sentences with words like: "Drag, Strip,
Straight, Racing and Corner" and there's absolutely no reference to a
drag-queen stripping for a straight guy on a corner outside a race track.
What are the odds?  ;0)

Hehe I wanted to write it with such double-meaning, but my point lost it
effect if I would had written it as "You mean there are dragstrips without
corners?".  :)
