TD4 - Playstation first thoughts.

by Brian Fo » Sun, 09 Nov 1997 04:00:00

I rented Test Drive 4 for Sony Playstation, and I must say it's a whole lot
better than their last attempt (TD - Offroad).  Graphics were smooth and
good looking.  Cars all sound like they're supposed to, and look like the
cars they are supposed to.  Handling seems okay, considering I'm using the
sony analog joystick.  Straightening back out after over-correcting is
almost impossible at medium and higher speeds.  Also, unlike in NFS where
you could light up the tires in the viper and whip cookies forever, there is
very little car shifting in TD4.  You can still light up the tires forever,
but it's just like you're driving in sand, it still goes right where you
point it.  The cop is one thing that confused me.  When you scream by a cop,
his lights go on, and he floors it, but then when he catches up to you, he
keeps on going.  Usually causing a huge accident.  Kind of pointless.  The
hills of Sanfrancisco are great.  The cross-traffic will slow you down
considerably, as it should.  And I've never seen more mini's on one road in
my life, of course I've never been to England, so I don't know how many were
made to begin with.  Ummmmmmmmmm...................oh yeah, the playstation
version apparently has no dashboards, I'm guessing the pc version will.
I'll be looking forward to this one.
