For P2-300 and lower -> Rendition
Above P2-300
 800x600 doesn't matter much/personal preference
1024x768 3Dfx

I depends on what sims you're using.  In general, the only sims with
good Rendition support are the Papyrus sims.  Papyrus also supports
3dfx.  Most of the other top sims have 3dfx support.  So if you're
looking for a card that will have wide support, go with 3dfx.  The
Riva TNT is also a top card, but I've never used one to comment on it
or its compatability with racing sims.

Thanks for the feedback/advice guys, from what I've experienced with the
two alternatives, I've found that Rendition gives better effects e.g
smoke(especially from the engine) skid marks etc. And 3Dfx gives a
better/clearer overall graphics display. So it is pretty much down to
personal preferance I guess.

If you own a lot of the Papy sims, and have some spare cash and don't
own a 3Dfx card and have a lower end computer (phew!), buy a Rendition
card. However, if you want compatability with virtually all of todays
latest games and high frame rates as well as very good resolutions, by
a Voodoo II. The Voodoo II is also very good on a lower-end spec
machine, just like mine (Pentium 166).
