I think my mom paid about $2-3,000 for our...(snicker!) IBM PCjr when I was
a kid. It was a HUGE step above my TRS-80. This thing had a 4.88 Mhz
processor and I think 128Kb of ram. We bought an accelerator card for about
$150-200 that upped it to about 8Mhz. Was incredible how much faster that was!
For only $150-200 more, we got a big cartridge that you plugged into the side,
to upgrade the ram to 640Kb. Unheard of!! Nobody needed that much memory!
I remember laughing at my friend's suggestion that I get something called a
"hard disk drive". What for? My games were on only one or two disks! You'd
pay another $150-200 just so you don't have to swap disks now and then? lol
The TRS-80 was great too. It had just over 1Mhz of processing power and 4 Kb
of Ram. The big upgrade was a cassette tape drive. This way, you could save
your Basic programs. :-)
