NFS-PU system crashes

by Alllure Design - Mik » Fri, 28 Apr 2000 04:00:00

Hi all,
The wife picked up the game a few days ago and I have not had very
good luck with it. I am about to give up but will give someone a chance
to figure this out. System is a Micron PII 266, 64 MB, viper330 with a
Monster II card (12 megs). I loaded the DX7 from the disk even though it
said it was already loaded, I also loaded the latest drivers from 3DFX
which were on the disk also but I thought something might be wrong.

I can race almost any section of the game (tried a few but not all
tracks) except for when I am playing the factory driver where it gets to
level 7 or so ... when it is raining and they let you have a run at the
course. The system crashes with an error: Divide error in module
porsche.icd at 15f:004aale0. When I clear that error by clicking on it
then I get a Kernal 32 error and have to shut the system down. Seems
very likely that it doesn't like the rain effect.
I do notice that when I enter the game the 3DFX logo does not appear
like most other games, is it supposed to? Is my Monster card not being
recognized somehow? I ran the 3d detect for the game setup and it does
find the card with no problem. I have totally removed all old drivers
and removed the card from Windows, then reinstalled it with the new
drivers. DX7 diag reports all is well but when I run the test with the
troubleshooting program in the game it reports that the card it detects
is the V330. Maybe it's not looking for it somehow with the diag utility
in the game because the 3d setup does find it.
Anyway, any and all help is appreciated ......... thanks in advance.

                        Mike
