Viper Racing - Am I the only one with horrible audio?

by John Cauthe » Sat, 24 Jun 2000 04:00:00

I picked up Viper Racing at Office Depot for $12.99, which seems like a
tremendous bargain.  However, there's a horrible problem with the sound on
my system.  It sounds like the audio samples are broken.  A looping engine
sound accompanied by what sounds like an oscillator clicking on and off,
comprise most of the audio.  It's so bad - and really - so faint, that I
can't gauge the pitch of the engine (making shifting by ear darn near
impossible).

I have a C-550 system, with a Voodoo 3 2000 and a Soundblaster PCI 128.  I'm
running Windows 98.  Has anyone else heard anything like this?  In my case,
it makes the game unplayable!

The only Yahoo link I found to Viper Racing was a dead one
(http://www.clubs.yahoo.com/%20viperracingclub). Was that the one you were
talking about or is there another one.  I can't find a link to it on any
other Viper sites...

Thanks,

I can't say that I've heard of this problem before. Do you have the newest
drivers and an up to date version of direct X on your system? This might
clear up your problem. Hopefully you can get Viper Racing working properly
because it is definitely worth it in my opinion

Viper Racing - Am I the only one with horrible audio?

I have the same sound problem...repeated clicking and broken
samples...I can shift by ear but  car starting and many other samples
are broken.  I am Win2000 with aureal Vortex 2 and Voodoo3.  Retail
3dfx drivers and aureal W2k shipped drivers.

Like to know if you find a solution.

Cheers,
E

John,

Download the 1.1 patch (viper11.exe) and that may solve your problem.
You can try the url below or do a search for viper racing patch.

This is a DirectX issue, I believe -- I had a similar problem when I
fired up Viper again recently; it had been working fine, then the sound
started to sound horrible as you've described (breaking up, etc.).  I
re-installed DX7 and the problem went away, so give that a try.
