Race drivers practically sit on the floor pan. Look at the next race
when they talk to the drivers before the start...their chins will barely
clear the window level. If the hood is visible, not very much of it is.
That's why drivers in the pits run into stray tires that are 6 feet in
front of their cars, cuz they can't see that close to the vehicle.

Think about Tiger Woods, when he had lasik he said the hole just looked
bigger when he would line up his shots...because he had decent vision, well
on a monitor you lose that decent vision and then some.
Really I am happy they added the fov feature, in fact every new feature has
been great (well aside from the sun not wishing to set, but it is pretty and
does make me want to squint), it just seems the only reasonably decent way
to get close to the action is to buy a Parnananananananananahelia...
