the track will be one of possibly 3 Euro road courses run by CART in the
Spring.
From ESPN's RPM website:

It's not official yet, but it looks like Championship Auto Racing Teams is
going to spend next spring in England and Europe running on some hallowed
Formula One ground.

While CEO Chris Pook refused to comment on the subject, ESPN.com has learned
that CART is in final negotiations to run Brands Hatch (England), Spa
(Belgium) and Estoril (Portugal) on consecutive weekends in 2003.

"That would be awesome because all three of those tracks have a lot of
history and CART would put on a good show for them," said Mario Andretti,
the 1978 world champion and Indy-car legend.

You should tell that to the 300,000+ people who attended the races in
Mexico City, Monterey, and Long Beach.  CART might have a ***TV deal
but they still fill the stands at many venues, especially in Meixco,
Brazil, etc.

I've had no reason to watch CART this season. Looks like I might want to
watch at least a few of the venues next year, however. Hope it happens.
I enjoyed watching the Mexico race and comparing to the GPL version.

There is an FIA ruling somewhere that states CART can only race ovals in
Europe. That's why it's latest venture over here required the construction
of Rockingham and Lausitzring.
Maybe this explains the meeting between Mr Ecclestone and Mr Pook, to get
the ruling dropped and allow CART onto road courses?

I  hope so,

This ruling was dropped years ago. CART can run wherever they want as
long as it doesn't interfere with the F1 calendar.

***tv deal .. you are spot on there! Why oh WHy oh WHY can't they get
themselves a decent tv deal ...  in the UK it's even worse than the rallying
coverage at the moment .. even ALMS gets better coverage here. !!
They should     Ditch eurosport .. who by the way screened the end
segment of the mexican race twice last week Ijn the same programme !! :-))
.. no one there was watching obviously to spot that we'd just seen all that!
Eurosport .. purveyors of all cheap international sport ... they
dont do CART any favours at all!!

            There I've said it!

The rallying coverage is excellent (C4), if you can get eurosport doubly so.

I'm not sure anyone else would show it (at a decent hour anyway). They should simply let
eurosport show it live like they used to.

CART Races are live Sunday nights on Sky Sports... So the TV deal in the UK
is actually pretty amazing.

:-))  Ok Ok , so they were live on sky sports... actually , as you say , a
pretty good tv deal .. hmmmm .. you know I watched them all too , maybe I
was stuck in a time warp back to last year then, when sky only showed nascar
busch and IRL ......
I was going to share my opinions on eurosport's
previous attempts at 'live ' coverage of CART too, but  let's just say a
return to that wouldn't be welcome here chez vizoso :-)) .
so nobody spotted the race broadcast contained two identical
segments ?
