I'm afraid that apart from the latter (which happens now and then no
matter how much tech is involved) you're more or less right.
F1 is rapidly on the way of any sport that gets too professional: only
the richest of the rich will be able to afford it in the end.
If even the fans think it's boring these days (and I am a fan, but not
about cars which have autocorrection, auto-steering, auto-braking and
anti-wheelspin) chances are something's basically and seriously wrong.
If it were up to me, we'd go back to a "GPL" kind of formula: no wings,
lower cornering speeds, no electronic "driving aids", simple and cheap
cars so that more teams will be able to come in, and all driving done
"by hand".
But keep the monocoques and all other safety improvements which have
saved many a life in the last few decades.
And while we're at it, back to the original F1 qualifying system: no
qualifying, just a lottery for places. Give the backmarkers a good
chance now and then, and the public some more racing action.
