SIR JACK WILL DRIVE A BRABHAM IN RACE OF LEGENDS AT
   CLIPSAL 500 ADELAIDE

For the first time in 30 years, Sir Jack Brabham will climb back into
a
Formula One car bearing his own name and race in the Clipsal 500
Adelaide support feature event, Formula Adelaide - The race of
   Legends.

The event will be held on Adelaides 3.2km street circuit from April
   7-9, 2000.

Brabham drove an F1 McLaren-BRM at the inaugural Race of Legends
this year, however in the year 2000 event, race fans will be
delighted
to see Sir Jack race one of his own cars again.

Sir Jack is the only man ever to win the Formula One World Drivers
Championship and the Constructors Championship in a car bearing
his own name, an achievement not likely to be repeated.

Two Brabham F1 cars have been offered to the Australian Legend to
drive, one has been found in the US formerly raced by the late
Austrian world champion, Jochen Rindt in 1968.

Seattle Formula Adelaide competitor, John Dimmer was so concerned
that Sir Jack might not get to race a Brabham F1 car again, he bought
the Rindt car specifically for Brabham to drive in Adelaide next
year.

Sir Jack will also have a second Brabham -Repco to drive based here
in Australia. The race car is his old 1967 chassis, the year his team
won both the drivers and constructors F1 championship for the
   second year in a row.

Formula Adelaide-Race of Legends will again attract a field of 18 to
20
historic 1966-1969 Pre-Winged Formula One racing cars from the
United Kingdom, United States, Australia and New Zealand.

Results from the inaugural Formula Adelaide-race of Legends:

   Race 1:
Vern Schuppan (Aus) Lotus 49B, Pete Lovely (USA) Lotus 49,
Jack Brabham (Aus) McLaren M5A BRM. Fastest Lap: Pete
   Lovely-1.33.92.

   Race 2:
Dave Livingstone (USA) Ferrari 312/69, P. Lovely (USA) Lotus 49,
Robs Lamplough (UK) BRM 133. Fastest Lap: D.Livingstone 1.37.92.

   Race 3:
Pete Lovely (USA) Lotus 49, Vern Schuppan (AUS) Lotus 49B,
Jack Brabham (AUS) McLaren M5A BRM. Fastest Lap: V. Schuppan
   1.37.79.

   Race 4:
Vern Schuppan (Aus) Lotus 49B, Pete Lovely (USA) Lotus 49,
Jack Brabham (AUS) McLaren M5A BRM. Fastest Lap: J Brabham
   1.34.03.
Formula Adelaide-Race of Legends lap record: P. Lovely Lotus 49,
   1.33.92.

Is that true?  That's an amazing statistic.

Later last year, at the Goodwood festival, he had another, very scary
looking crash.  While driving an old 60's McLaren F1 car, he came together
with Jackie Oliver and spun into a wall pretty hard.

Brad,

I found that piece of info to be pretty remarkable, so I looked up
Brabham's racing record at Planet F1:

http://www.planet-f1.com/drivers/results_by_driver.html/f1/ENG?driver...

He had numerous retirements due to accidents -- Monza 1970, Monaco 1969
(crashed with Surtees! We can all relate to that one), Zandvoort 1968,
Zandvoort 1962, Monsanto 1959, Monza 1958, Nurburgring 1958, Rouen 1957.

Where did you hear that statement?

Now that would be something to spoont in your shorts about. If it was
accuratly modeled (i have an extremely detailed large surveyors track map
for there, if anyone wants it let me know here), it would be awesome next to
nothing else.
